This provision is outstanding

 The childminder is highly motivated, very enthusiastic and has exceedingly high expectations of herself and the children. This has an extremely positive impact on children's learning.  The childminder provides a very warm, homely and welcoming environment. Children are happy and feel extremely emotionally secure. They develop a very strong sense of belonging.  Children develop excellent language skills. The childminder introduces musical instruments and props, for example, to enhance children's learning as they listen to, and join in with, their favourite nursery songs. Children, including those who speak more than one language, make very rapid progress towards the early learning goals.  Children take part in many interesting sensory experiences, such as investigating different shapes and sizes of pasta to explore 'hot and cold.' Children remain fully engaged and highly motivated during activities.

This provision is outstanding

 The childminder uses her excellent safeguarding knowledge to ensure she promotes children's safety and welfare at all times. For example, she is vigilant in her supervision and teaches children successfully to manage risks safely.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend further the opportunities to explore early literacy skills for children who learn best outside.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors.  The inspector examined a range of documentation, including the childminder's safeguarding records, and qualification and suitability checks. She also examined children's learning journals.  The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times and interacted with the children during the inspection.  The inspector read the childminder's self-evaluation document and examined how she evaluates her provision and drives improvements.  The inspector spoke to parents during the inspection to gather their views about the service they receive.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder is highly reflective with a strong drive to raise the standards of her provision continually. For example, she has implemented the recommendations from the last inspection exceptionally well, and works closely with parents and other professionals to evaluate what she does to identify areas for improvement. The childminder actively seeks to extend her excellent practice to benefit children and their families. For example, she attended training to strengthen her interaction with parents further. Parents are highly complimentary and report that they are 'very happy and the childminder has exceeded what we expected.' Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is highly confident of what to do should she have any concerns about a child.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder observes children rigorously and makes precise assessments to plan rich and highly stimulating activities. For example, she built on children's love for arts and crafts by providing them with resources to make 'bubble wrap patterns' and 'winter glove pictures.' The childminder provides a superb print-rich environment, for example, to reflect children's interest in pictures; although, this is less effective for those who prefer to learn outdoors. The childminder promotes children's increasing physical skills exceptionally well. For example, she gives them ample time to practise what they know and can do, to promote children's confidence and motivation skills. Children are thrilled to crawl, bottom shuffle and take their first steps as they explore indoors and outdoors.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder is kind and gentle, and divides her time skilfully between children, for example, to help them feel valued. Children form excellent relationships with the childminder and build a positive self-image. For example, they babble excitedly and wobble from side to side, to show their curiosity and enjoyment. The childminder gives children's health the highest priority. For example, she teaches children how to look after themselves and encourages them to taste different nutritious foods. She talks to them about the effect that foods have on their bodies. The childminder has high expectations of children and encourages their independence by giving them responsibilities, such as helping to put toys away.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children thrive in this highly nurturing environment. They are happy, extremely well behaved, and maintain focus for significant periods. For example, children were engrossed and excited as they explored water, scooping and pouring, using different-sized containers. Children make rapid progress and are extremely well prepared for their future learning.
