This provision is good
The childminder plans activities and experiences that help children to learn through play and exploration based on their interests and curiosities. Children develop a range of skills that prepare them for their future learning. Children have trusting relationships with the childminder and her assistant. For example, they show that they are happy in their care and easily approach them for comfort and support. Children play confidently, enjoy their learning and make good progress in their development. The childminder has developed successful partnerships with other settings children attend. For example, the childminder finds out what children are learning at nursery and school, and provides activities to ensure they are supported consistently. The childminder and her assistant provide a warm and stimulating environment where children have access to a wide range of easily accessible resources. The childminder is reflective and uses self-evaluation to identify the strengths of her

practice and areas that she would like to develop. She includes the views of her assistant, parents and children to continue to make changes to her provision.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always use questioning or opportunities effectively to help children to think for themselves and use their own ideas and thoughts to challenge their learning further.

Inspection activities
The inspector looked at the areas of the home used for childminding. The inspector observed the childminder and assistant playing with the children throughout the inspection. The inspector spoke with the childminder and assistant at convenient times during the inspection. The inspector checked evidence of suitability and qualifications of the childminder and her assistant, and discussed the childminder's self-evaluation process. The inspector looked at documentation, including policies, procedures and children's records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder regularly updates her safeguarding knowledge and knows the procedures to follow should she have concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder communicates and shares information effectively with parents. For example, she has daily discussions with them about their children's learning, which helps them to work successfully together. The childminder and her assistant closely monitor children's progress to ensure they quickly identify any areas where children may need extra support. The childminder supports her assistant well and ensures she has a thorough understanding of her roles and responsibilities. The childminder keeps her knowledge and skills updated well. For example, she completes training and makes links with other professionals.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children explore and investigate an exciting variety of well-planned and resourced activities. For example, the childminder provided children with a good range of resources to make 'night lights', including different coloured pens, glow sticks, containers and pasta. Children developed their creative, physical and independence skills effectively. For example, the childminder encouraged them to make their own choices to decorate these. Children had fun creating dens to watch their 'night lights' glow in the dark. The childminder promotes children's early literacy skills well. For example, she encourages children to sound out letters as they write their name. Children enjoy stories with the childminder, choosing their favourite books and learn to predict what might happen next.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder works closely with parents from the start to find out about children's care routines and interests, to help them settle and feel safe in her care. She is a positive role model and encourages children to develop good manners and respect others. Children behave very well and establish positive friendships. The childminder promotes children's health and physical development effectively. For example, children help prepare healthy meals, and develop their balance and coordination, such as when they explore outdoors. Children gain a secure understanding of the world around them through an exciting range of activities. For example, the childminder encourages children to explore different cultural festivals and learn about the natural world.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their development and gain the skills they need for their next stage in learning. Children enjoy learning and eagerly participate in activities, games and conversation. Children develop good language and mathematical skills. For example, children count confidently during their play and older children learn to add and subtract.
