p.4

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is inadequate

The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective. Children's safety and well-being are significantly compromised. The childminder has failed to notify Ofsted of changes to the adults living on the premises. The childminder does not obtain important information relating to children and their families, including details of any person who has legal responsibility for the child. The childminder lacks understanding about the possible signs and symptoms of abuse. She is unclear about the procedures to follow if there is a concern about a child. Furthermore, she is also unsure of the correct procedure to follow in the event that an allegation is made about herself or a household member. The childminder does not make sure that the house is a suitable environment in which to care for children. The childminder has not ensured she holds a valid first-aid qualification at all times. This means that she lacks the up-to-date knowledge to deal with any accidents a

child may have in her care. She does not keep a written record of accidents sustained by a child. Parents sign an agreement to enable the childminder to give their child medicine. However, the childminder does not keep a written record each time a medicine is administered to a child. The childminder does not reflect on or evaluate her provision. The childminder does not have the drive to improve or to build on her skills and knowledge through further training.

p.5

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is inadequate

Children are not adequately supported to reach their full potential or be ready for the next stage in their learning. The childminder does not use observation to identify what children already know or make accurate assessments of children's learning to plan what they need to learn next. Children's individual learning needs are not accurately known. The childminder does not provide developmentally appropriate activities across all areas of learning. The childminder does not gather information about children's starting points or keep parents informed of their child's progress. Children learn some mathematical concepts as they count the number of spots on dice.

p.5

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate

Children's physical development is suitably promoted. Children enjoy trips to the park and other local areas. They are provided with nutritious meals and the childminder encourages children to talk about food that is good for them. Children adopt positive hygiene practices and manage their self-care independently. The childminder attends local toddler groups so children can make friends with others and learn to share. Children develop some social skills. They behave well and have formed appropriate relationships with the childminder.

p.5

Outcomes for children are inadequate

Children's welfare and learning are not well supported as there are significant weaknesses in the childminder's knowledge and practice. Activities provided are not sufficiently helping children to develop further skills. Children are not making enough progress from their starting points and they are not effectively prepared for school.
