This provision is good
The childminder provides a wide range of appropriate toys and resources that are easily accessible to engage the children and extend their play and learning. For example, children remain active and motivated as they explore different musical instruments and practise their early writing skills. The childminder and her assistant build strong bonds with children and interact with them in a caring and positive way. They act as good role models and children behave well. They are happy, confident and ready to learn. The childminder and her assistant work closely together with parents and relevant professionals to ensure they meet children's needs and plan effectively for their individual learning. All children make good progress. The childminder and her assistant demonstrate a good understanding of how to safeguard children and protect them from harm. For example, they carry out daily risk assessments, checking and minimising potential hazards to help keep children safe.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always make effective use of the routine to support children who prefer to learn outdoors. On occasion, the childminder and her assistant miss opportunities to promote children's independence during daily tasks and hygiene routines.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors. The inspector spoke to the childminder and her assistant at appropriate times. The inspector checked documents relating to the suitability and qualifications of the childminder and her assistant, and sampled documentation, including safeguarding procedures and children's progress. The inspector spoke to the parents to take their views on the day of the inspection. The inspector read the childminder's self-evaluation document and examined how she evaluates her provision and drives improvements.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant are confident of what to do if they have concerns about a child in their care. They have attended training on child protection to enhance their knowledge and understanding further. The childminder evaluates her provision effectively and has identified targets for improvement. She is proactive in seeking training to benefit children and their families. For example, she has made positive changes to the physical environment to make it more inviting and welcoming. The childminder provides a thorough induction for her assistant to promote a consistent approach, and effectively monitors her assistant's practice.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The quality of teaching is strong. The childminder uses her good understanding of how children learn and builds on the things they enjoy and can do. For example, when she observed that children enjoyed playing with shaving foam, she extended this and added powder paint and glitter to enhance their experience. Younger children's love for big cars and trucks is promoted to keep them occupied and highly motivated. The childminder completes regular written and photographic observation of children's learning and shares these with parents. She monitors and tracks children's progress accurately to help her plan good activities. The childminder promotes children's language skills well. For example, she talks to them constantly and teaches them to say words correctly.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children's healthy lifestyles and follows well-established hygiene practices. For example, she ensures children have plenty to drink throughout the day and takes them to local parks and toddler groups for physical play. The childminder consistently promotes positive behaviour and makes her expectations clear to children. For example, she has devised 'house rules' so children understand how to behave appropriately. Children play cooperatively, share and take turns. The childminder places strong emphasis on helping children to learn about, and respect, the similarities and differences between themselves and others. Children feel included, which has a positive impact on their self-esteem and confidence.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children become confident speakers and feel comfortable when expressing their needs to the childminder and her assistant. They are eager to learn and show they feel safe and emotionally secure. Children make good progress and learn the key skills for the next stage in their learning or the move to school.
