The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including the childminder's training certificates, insurance policy, records of attendance, risk assessments, Disclosure and Barring Service checks and her safeguarding policy. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and assistants about their daily teaching and care practices. The inspector took account of the parents' views during the inspection. The inspector conducted a joint observation with the childminder and observed the quality of care, teaching and children's learning. The inspector looked at the areas used for childminding purposes.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder generally has a good understanding of how to safeguard children and of what to do if he is concerned about a child. He provides a safe environment for children and carries out risk and safety checks to identify and minimise any hazards. The childminder has robust recruitment, vetting and supervision procedures in place to ensure suitable assistants work with the children. The childminder observes children carefully and effectively monitors their individual progress. This helps identify and address any gaps in their learning. The childminder regularly shares information with parents on their children's learning and development. Parents comment positively about their children's care and teaching. The childminder makes effective use of feedback from parents and his assistants when evaluating the provision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a wide range of resources that help children enjoy their play and learning. The childminder interacts well with children and skilfully supports their play and learning activities. He responds well to their interests and children are constantly enthusiastic to take part in their play. For example, they smiled with delight when digging soil for planting their seeds. Children are motivated to learn and happily spend long periods enjoying their activities. They gain a good interest in their physical skills; for example, they enjoy playing outdoors on the trampoline. Children develop early personal and social skills well throughout their play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children play in a warm, welcoming and safe environment. They form close relationships with the childminder and settle well within his care. Children enjoy the childminder's company and approach him with ease. They have the space to move around, to explore and develop new interests. Children develop their confidence and self-esteem well. They are happy and feel valued when the childminder praises them to recognise their efforts and achievements. Children are developing their understanding of how to share and take turns. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles effectively. For example, children follow good hygiene routines, have freshly prepared and nutritious meals, and regularly take part in physical play in the open air.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They are eager to learn and develop key skills, such as confidence and independence. They learn to share and take turns with other children. They develop good coordination and mobility. They enjoy stories and sing with enthusiasm. They are well prepared for the next stage in their learning.
