This provision is good
Children develop good social and emotional skills and have very positive relationships with the childminder, helping them to flourish under her care. The childminder observes and assesses children's achievements well. She consults with parents in order to plan effectively for children's next steps, contributing to their good progress. The childminder supervises children well and protects them from harm. She takes effective action to manage and eliminate risks, to ensure children play in safety. The childminder provides a well-organised learning environment. Children independently choose from a good range of resources that supports their learning. The childminder effectively evaluates her provision to identify areas of weakness and develop her practice. She involves parents in the process in order to help her make changes that improve their children's experiences. Children show a keen interest in the natural world, and enjoy exploring with sand and

visiting nature parks with the childminder to learn about different insects.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always allow children the opportunity to follow their own ideas and interests to extend their play and learning further. The outdoor play area is not very stimulating and activities planned do not always cover the different areas of learning to support those children who learn best outside.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and interactions between the childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector viewed documentation, including children's records, and policies and procedures. The inspector discussed the completed self-evaluation document with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of child protection requirements. She attends regular training in order to keep her safeguarding knowledge up to date, so she is able to follow procedures and protect children's welfare. The childminder practises regular fire drills with the children and uses documentation effectively, such as accident and medication records, to support their well-being. The childminder monitors children's progress well to identify gaps in their learning. She works closely with parents and shares information about their children's progress and development. The childminder puts training to good use, for example, to improve how she promotes children's awareness of healthy lifestyles.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder's secure observation and assessment processes lead to effective planning for children's individual future learning. The childminder supports children well to express their views confidently and make decisions during the planned activities. For example, they choose what they want to use to decorate their artwork. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to explore and investigate, and extends their learning well. For example, during their pretend play, she encourages children to learn about the value and use of money and to press the buttons on the toy cash register to find out how it works. The childminder promotes children's communication and language development very well. She gives younger children time to speak and repeat words to support their emerging language.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and confident. They develop good emotional security through gradual settling-in procedures that the childminder agrees with parents, in order for her to respond sensitively and meet children's individual care needs. The childminder provides healthy meals and uses positive discussions during play to reinforce children's growing understanding of healthy food. Children gain a good understanding of differences in society, and learn about different cultures, traditions and beliefs.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are active and independent learners. They develop good concentration and listening skills. For example, very young children sit down and follow instructions as the childminder guides them to make a collage. They develop good mathematical skills, such as counting and number recognition. Young children learn to solve problems from an early age, for example, with the childminder's positive support they fit puzzle pieces together and identify different colours. These skills prepare children very well for their next stage of learning.
