This provision is good
Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. The childminder uses observations and assessments effectively to monitor children's development and help them achieve the next steps in their learning. The childminder creates a safe and stimulating environment with a good range of activities to capture children's interest and promote their learning. Children form warm and trusting relationships with the childminder. She is a calm and gentle role model who helps them develop positive attitudes and respect for others. The childminder undertakes training and personal development to extend her knowledge and skills. For example, she attends regular professional forums to keep up to date and ready for changes, to help her promote children's care and learning and to plan further training.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses some opportunities for younger children to hear number language during play, to promote their early mathematical development. The childminder does not consistently obtain accurate information from all parents about their children's development at home, to extend children's learning even further in all areas.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
enhance opportunities for younger children to learn about numbers, to extend their early mathematical development further strengthen partnerships with parents further still by encouraging all parents to share information regularly about their children's learning at home.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and the quality of the childminder's interaction with the children. The inspector observed the management of children's care routines. The inspector looked at children's assessment records. The inspector sampled the childminder's documentation and discussed her knowledge of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The inspector took account of the views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of her role and responsibilities to promote children's welfare. This includes how to respond in the event of concerns. The childminder has addressed the weaknesses from the last inspection to improve her practice. For example, she completes self-evaluation to show the impact of improvements on children's care and learning and to identify further improvements. The childminder has improved her assessment and planning systems to monitor and promote children's learning effectively. She has improved handwashing routines to help children develop good personal hygiene.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her good teaching skills and positive interactions to keep children interested and challenged in their play. She plans activities to help children achieve their next steps for learning. For example, the childminder provides lots of activities to promote younger children's developing mobility in very safe and secure play areas. She tempts them with favourite toys and encouragement to shuffle and crawl to reach them, and to knock down soft-block towers. The childminder responds quickly to children's communications to encourage their sounds, gestures and early language skills. For example, she repeats back younger children's babbles and verbalises what she thinks they are saying as they become more and more excited.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder meets children's individual care routines consistently and in agreement with parents. Children play happily in the childminder's warm and nurturing environment and share lots of affection with her to promote their well-being. She provides time and reassurance for children to lead their own play. For example, the childminder provides many sensory objects and materials for young children to investigate. She demonstrates alongside them how feathers can tickle, what sounds instruments can make and what buttons can do on activity books. Children remain absorbed as they investigate further and continually return to the things they find most interesting to explore again.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development from the start. They enjoy investigating new experiences and confidently lead their own play under the childminder's close reassurance. Children learn to do things for themselves from a young age, such as feeding themselves at meals. Children benefit from lots of outings to develop their social skills and to extend their learning experiences. They develop good skills for their future learning and moving on to school.
