Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector carried out an evaluation of teaching with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as policies and procedures, reviewed the childminder's self-evaluation and checked evidence of her suitability and the suitability of all adults who live on the premises. The inspector took account of the views of a small selection of parents through written documentation provided prior to the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows how to recognise if a child may be at risk of neglect or abuse and who to contact should she have any concerns. This helps to protect children's welfare and keep them safe. The childminder ensures that all potential risks in her home are minimised to help her to provide a safe and secure environment for children. She works closely with the local authority adviser and other local childminders. This contributes towards her making ongoing improvements to her practice. The childminder attends regular training to keep up to date with new initiatives and any changes to legislation and to develop her skills. This contributes towards positive outcomes for all children.

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder holds a recognised childcare qualification. She uses the knowledge gained from her qualification to plan effectively to help children to progress across all areas of learning. The childminder includes information from parents when completing children's initial assessments. She shares regular and precise summaries of development with parents to keep them informed about their children's progress. The childminder introduces mathematical language as children play. She asks them to compare the sizes of toy animals. She supports even young children to count dinosaurs and introduces colour and sequencing using a toy abacus. The childminder places a strong emphasis on supporting children's early interest in reading and writing. Regular trips to the local library help to
