This provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She provides children with a wide-ranging choice of toys and resources, which meet their individual learning needs and interests. Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. Children learn to manage their feelings and behaviour at a young age. For example, they play cooperatively together, share and respect one another. They receive praise for their efforts and achievements, which helps to promote their confidence and self- esteem. Children share close and trusting relationships with the childminder. They are keen to learn and confident to explore the world around them. The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills well. She takes every opportunity to ask questions and introduce new vocabulary as children play. The childminder has established good links with other settings that children also attend.
p.1
This provision is good
This helps to promote continuity in children's care and learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder regularly evaluates and reflects on her provision, she does not consistently seek the views of parents to help her identify her strengths and priorities for improvement at the highest level. The childminder does not always make the most of opportunities to encourage an early understanding of numbers and sizes as children engage in play.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

strengthen opportunities to involve parents in the self-evaluation of the provision, to make it more robust and highly focused extend children's early understanding of numbers and sizes, to develop their mathematical skills.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector held discussions with the childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector observed the interaction between the childminder and children during activities. The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including policies and procedures, risk assessments and the children's learning and assessment records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child's welfare. She carries out regular risk assessments, to help ensure the premises are safe and secure. The childminder attends regular training to broaden her already very good knowledge. For example, she has strengthened her teaching skills in developing children's language and communication as they take part in daily activities. This contributes towards the good progress children make. The childminder has made improvements since her last inspection. She has fully met the previous recommendations. She accurately observes and assesses children's learning to plan precisely for their next steps in learning. The childminder shares this information with parents to promote a shared approach to children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder effectively monitors and tracks children's progress and development, to ensure she closes any gaps in learning swiftly. She gains useful information from parents about children's care and learning needs. She provides children with challenging activities to support their learning from the start. The childminder helps children to develop their early writing skills. For instance, they have great fun writing shopping lists and learn about letters and sounds they make in preparation for school. Children are able to initiate their own play and follow their own interests. For example, they enjoy being creative and imaginative as they engage in role-play activities alongside their friends. They have great fun, working as a team to build a den in the garden, for example. The childminder follows children's lead as they play, to capture and sustain their interests.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder helps children to learn to look after themselves. For example, older children are taught to attend to their personal hygiene needs and younger children are encouraged to feed themselves. The childminder helps children to celebrate and develop an understanding of diversity through a range of activities. She effectively promotes children's awareness of safety. For example, she discusses road safety when walking in the community. The childminder provides children with a good range of opportunities to be physically active and explore the natural environment. For example, children enjoy planting and growing flowers in the childminder's garden and regular visits to local parks.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are motivated and curious learners who are keen to achieve. They listen and follow instructions well. Children are learning the key skills needed for school.
