This provision is outstanding

 The childminder demonstrates an uncompromising drive to ensure she provides the very best for all children in her care. Her systems for self-evaluation are highly reflective and continuous. She is constantly reviewing all areas of practice to identify more successful ways of working.  The childminder's knowledge of the children in her care is excellent. She is aware of any areas where they may be at risk of falling behind expected development. There is a strong cycle of observation, assessment and planning that precisely supports children's next steps in their learning and helps them make excellent progress.  Children's communication and language skills are given a high priority by the childminder. She supports children's confidence, communication and engagement, enriching her interactions, stories and activities with signs and actions. She attentively listens and watches for their responses, giving them time to communicate.

This provision is outstanding

 The childminder has developed extremely caring and respectful relationships with the children. She is very patient and kind and acts as an exceptional role model for them. They are very happy, settled and thrive in her care.  The environment is interesting and highly stimulating with rich learning opportunities provided through a varied range of resources and inspiring activities. The organisation of resources is very well thought out to enable children to choose things for themselves. Children are self-motivated to initiate their own play and explore with confidence.  Partnerships with parents are very strong. Daily chats, frequent messages and the regular sharing of children's assessments promote a highly collaborative approach to their individual needs. Specific programmes of support for children are implemented jointly with parents to help gaps in their development close rapidly.

Inspection activities

 The inspector viewed the areas used for childminding. She talked to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection and observed a variety of activities.  The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability and qualifications of the childminder as well as a selection of policies and procedures, including safeguarding. She discussed risk assessments and the childminder's self-evaluation process.  The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. She discussed children's learning and development, sampled their records and looked at the planning documentation.  The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day of the inspection and as expressed in their comments on questionnaires and letters obtained by the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder is an enthusiastic and reflective practitioner who gives high attention to detail. She works exceptionally hard to ensure that all documentation and aspects of her provision reflect current legislation and excellent practice. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder's excellent organisation, thorough risk assessments and daily checks ensure that children's safety is promoted at all times. She undertakes mandatory and some additional training to enhance her own knowledge and to improve the experiences she offers the children. The childminder has plans in place to seek further professional development opportunities, in order to maintain her outstanding practice.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder offers children time and space to explore new ideas and concepts in breadth and depth during activities. Young children investigate the wide variety of resources available on an inspiring sensory table. They become fascinated with transporting items over to the role-play kitchen. They experiment with opening and closing the windows and doors, putting items in and out and peeking in. Children's exploration flows almost seamlessly from one activity to another through the responsive and quick adaptations by the childminder. Children continue their investigations, relishing collecting plastic eggs in the childminder's garden. They then explore emptying and filling them. The childminder encourages them to persevere with attaching and opening the lids themselves. They marvel at the different sounds they can make, experimenting with different items and the quantities of objects within the eggs.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The rich, vibrant and safe environment provides a secure base for children and they flourish. Children learn to manage risks very appropriately as the childminder sensitively allows them to explore at their own pace. She is extremely patient and stays close by to support and reassure younger children and those that require extra help. This ensures their continued safety and well-being and develops their confidence very effectively. They enjoy an Easter egg hunt on the patio in the garden. They excitedly toddle around, negotiating spaces and balancing carefully as they bend down, pick up the egg and then proudly put it in their basket. The childminder constantly reviews the set up of her home. She ensures it specifically supports children's growing needs and abilities, facilitating their independent exploration and challenging them extremely effectively.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

All children are making excellent progress across all areas of their development. Children who need extra help to catch up have made substantial and sustained progress and any gaps in their learning have closed. All children are very effectively learning to communicate their needs. Young children's self-motivation and self-esteem are developing superbly. They are becoming very successful learners and confident individuals. They show excellent attention and listening skills for their age. Children are developing very suitable skills to prepare them for the next stage in their learning and their move on to school.
