This provision is good
The childminder provides good quality teaching and promotes children's learning well. She plans effectively for their individual needs and ensures she includes good levels of challenge in activities. Children have fun and are able to explore media and materials. They learn to use positional language and count spontaneously during play. The childminder asks many open-ended questions to promote children's thinking skills. The childminder gives lots of praise and motivates children to learn. She provides opportunities for children to take control of their play. For example, children make large 'cupcakes' in frying pans when they play in the mud kitchen. The sensory learning of babies is well promoted. The partnerships with parents are good. The childminder has many discussions about what children can do and know. She makes accurate assessments of children's achievements and shares information with parents. They agree where to seek early

intervention to ensure gaps in learning are closing. Children are well behaved, happy and confident in the care of the childminder and her assistant.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide sufficient opportunities for children to extend their understanding of weights and measures. Occasionally, activities are not planned well enough to make sure that children are able to make good use of the resources provided to build on their learning. For example, during water play, the quantity of resources provided is too overwhelming for children to play and explore well.

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder keeps up to date with changes in safeguarding and ensures her assistant has a good understanding of reporting procedures. Children are kept safe from harm in the care of the childminder. She regularly evaluates the provision and makes changes for the benefit of the children. Since registration, the childminder has developed the rear garden, so that children continue with learning outside. She monitors the achievements of children robustly and takes effective steps to promote their learning. The childminder supports her assistant effectively to maintain good standards of teaching overall. Parents are delighted with the quality of care their children receive and commend the childminder for the wide variety of learning experiences she provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans activities around children's interests. She allows time for children to copy skills and to try these out. She uses positional language consistently during play and encourages children to identify higher and lower sections of scales. She listens attentively while children talk. Children count confidently during play and name colours of toys and a wide selection of resources. The childminder plans effectively for babies. She ensures they have many opportunities to explore the environments indoors and outside. She promotes their language skills well with good levels of interaction. Younger children enjoy fitting puzzles together. The childminder ensures all children have opportunities to develop skills in solving problems. She gives lots of encouragement and motivates children in their learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are fully at ease in the childminder's care. She ensures children have sufficient time to settle when they first start. The childminder provides a highly nurturing environment and ensures babies get lots of cuddles. Children are self-assured. They explain the reasons for eating fruit and enjoy a wide selection at snack time. The childminder demonstrates how to use child-friendly knives correctly. This helps children to keep safe as they develop skills in cutting. Children are beginning to share and take turns. Their sense of achievement is promoted considerably. Each child gets a reward when they fulfil their responsibilities to help out at lunchtime. Children are proud of their gold medal which they wear around their necks. They treat others with respect and acknowledge their expressions of gratitude with responses, such as, 'You're welcome'.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop good skills for their future learning. They practise pencil control and use chalk to make marks on flagstones. They enjoy nursery rhymes and counting. The childminder ensures the sensory development of babies is well promoted and they develop good social and emotional skills.
