Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder ensures she keeps her knowledge of childcare matters up to date. She has an excellent understanding of the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder uses accurate self-evaluation to identify areas for improvement. For example, she has completed a broad range of carefully chosen training to enhance her practice. This has, for example, increased her skills in assisting children's speech development. The childminder recognises that she could do even more to embrace children's enjoyment of music to enhance their learning. The childminder has successfully built a network with other childminders and regularly shares information and practice ideas. She plans events with parents and other childminders to extend children's early experiences. Parents state that they are exceedingly happy with the high standards of care and attention their children receive.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The experienced childminder has an excellent understanding of the learning and development requirements. Her planning for children's learning is individual and unique for every child, and reflects their changing needs and interests. The childminder provides an extensive range of play resources to support individual learning. She organises toys so that children can easily make independent choices. The childminder uses innovative thinking to capture and build on children's interests and fascinations. For example, she has created an exciting outdoor water feature that children can use to explore and experiment with water.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder provides an extremely warm and nurturing environment. She forms close and caring relationships with children. Children behave extremely well. The childminder very sensitively teaches children how to negotiate and share, and to be respectful and tolerant of others. She is very successful in helping children to recognise the similarities and differences between themselves and others, and they develop immense self-esteem.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are extremely confident, independent and motivated to learn. All groups of children make outstanding progress from their starting points because of the exciting experiences that the childminder plans that bring learning to life. For example, as children learnt about the life cycle of a butterfly, they explored different materials and made caterpillars, cocoons and colourfully painted butterflies. Their creations adorn the childminder's home, and children watch avidly as the butterflies 'fly' in the draught created when the door opens. Children are exceptionally well prepared for their future learning.
