children and young people since the most recent full inspection
At the last inspection in December 2015 one requirement and two recommendations were made. While the recommendations have been met, the requirement relating to the accurate recording of restraints in a timely manner, remains.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
On occasion restraint records have not contained all the details required within 24 hours of their occurrence. Robust monitoring of these records by the manager has highlighted these shortfalls which have been subsequently rectified. Nevertheless, the initial recordings have not been of an acceptable standard.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
A recommendation was made at the last inspection regarding ensuring that missing person protocols for young people are more detailed. This has been met and updated missing person protocols are now explicit and detailed. Members of staff agree the protocols with young people and this has meant that staff know where to look when a young person is missing or absent without permission. This attention to detail has proved effective in practice and has meant that staff have supported young people to return to the home sensitively and safely.

Additionally, a recommendation made relating to staff recording if a door to a communal area has been locked in an emergency has also been met. This practice is no longer habitual and has been used rarely. If the practice has occurred, it has been robustly monitored and evaluated by the Registered Manager.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Liaison with partner agencies continues to be of a good standard. The Registered Manager and staff work effectively with agencies such as the child and adolescent mental health service to ensure that young people receive the support that they need.
p.2

Incidents, such as those involving safeguarding issues, are notified to placing social workers, the police and the local safeguarding children board. Subsequently, multi- disciplinary collaborative plans are put in place to protect young people. On one occasion the Registered Manager did not inform Ofsted of a suspicion that a young person was involved in sexual exploitation. Close working has been established with other relevant agencies and the young person’s safety has been protected, however, the Registered Manager did not inform Ofsted as required by regulation.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The Registered Manager ensures that admissions to the home are planned as thoroughly as possible. Strenuous efforts are made to ensure that young people receive the support they need in order to experience a supportive and nurturing transition. This prepares young people for their life in the home and improves the young person’s chances of success and making progress in their life.
p.3
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Members of staff work diligently with young people and their education settings to ensure that attendance is good and that well-structured support is given if they are struggling. This ensures that young people continue to make good progress, especially when bearing in mind their starting points.

Information about this inspection
Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people living in the children's home. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the difference adults make to the lives of children and young people. They read case files, watched how professional staff work with children, young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care given to children and young people. Wherever possible, they talked to children, young people and their families. In addition the inspectors have tried to understand what the children's home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people who it is trying to help, protect and look after. This inspection focused on the effectiveness of the home and the progress and experiences of children and young people since the most recent full inspection.
