Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the children and their interactions with the childminder.  The inspector viewed a sample of documents, including children's learning records.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder.  The inspector took account of the views of parents and children.  The inspector assessed the childminder's self-evaluation procedures.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder continually strives for excellence and uses her training knowledge and skills exceptionally well to improve outcomes for children even further. For example, she has further strengthened procedures for positive behaviour management, which helps children to thrive in confidence and self-esteem. She supervises her assistant effectively and ensures that he has had all the required training, such as paediatric first aid and safeguarding. Her excellent partnership with local schools helps her to ensure a smooth transfer for children who move to school. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder completes thorough risk assessments of her premises and outside areas, and she has an excellent understanding of child protection procedures.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder has high aims for children and effectively uses her comprehensive knowledge of child development to assess precisely and plan extremely efficiently for children's learning. She has not fully developed procedures to monitor specific groups of children to support their learning even further. Young children flourish in a rich language environment. The childminder consistently models language and extends their early communication skills exceptionally well. She provides challenging and exciting learning experiences for older children. For example, they were very excited as they had the responsibility of carefully handling and painting a real egg and completed the task without dropping it.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder consistently promotes children's self-choice. For example, when children engage in a pretend phone call with her, she very skilfully makes use of the opportunity to find out what they would like to have for lunch. Children thoroughly enjoy an excellent range of activities outside, which consistently helps them to develop a healthy lifestyle. The childminder makes excellent use of regular opportunities to develop children's sense of responsibility and independence. For example, she involves children in setting up the table for lunch.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children develop their physical, communication and social skills extremely well, which helps them to develop strong foundations for future learning. They enjoy exciting opportunities to develop their thinking skills, for example, as they listen to music and guess the song that will follow. Children learn mathematical language, such as 'up' and 'down' and 'big' and 'small', which helps them to build on skills for the future. Children who need further support in their learning make rapid progress from their starting points and benefit from close partnerships between the childminder, parents and professionals.
