support their children's development at home.  Children are extremely settled and happy in the welcoming, child-friendly surroundings. The kind, approachable and encouraging childminder reassures and values each child, who quickly grows in self-confidence.

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children's play activities and the childminder's interactions with them.  The inspector undertook a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder about the children and looked at their learning records.  The inspector sampled some safeguarding and leadership documentation.  The inspector sampled written feedback from parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage to a very high standard. Safeguarding is effective. She has an excellent understanding of safeguarding issues and is well versed in the procedures to follow in reporting any child welfare concerns. The well-qualified childminder is driven and dedicated to her role. She demonstrates very high expectations of herself and reflects upon and evaluates her own practice. She accurately identifies the areas where subtle changes can be made to enhance the play programme. The childminder precisely measures the progress of each child to promptly address any gaps in learning. She has extremely effective ways of working in partnerships with other settings the children attend.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder uses excellent teaching skills to inspire children's learning. Her first-class support and interaction is tailored to meet the interests, needs and strengths of each child. Inspirational teaching shows she has an excellent understanding of how to promote children's learning, weaving many areas of learning together. For example, she brings to life and encourages children to reflect on a new story using numbers, animals and props. The childminder places exceptional emphasis during child-led play on the development of children's communication skills. Children have opportunities to sing rhymes when they attend music groups but fewer opportunities to do so in daily play and everyday routines.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The exceedingly caring, patient and understanding childminder offers children a nurturing environment in which they flourish and feel extremely settled and secure. She expertly meets their care and learning needs. The extensive range of quality toys and play activities are easily accessible, which enables children to make independent play decisions. Children behave remarkably well and show high levels of confidence. For example, they involve visitors in their role play. Each child is carefully included by the childminder; they thrive upon the very specific attention, praise and encouragement given to them. Children play in a very safe environment. They take risks in a carefully managed way; for example, to climb up the challenging climbing frame independently.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

All children are highly motivated, effective learners who are extremely well prepared for school. For example, after hearing a story, youngest children attentively match animal pictures and the eldest children link letters and sounds to the animal names. They enthusiastically stick animals onto the globe while the childminder explains the animals' country of origin. Children relish their garden play; they use binoculars to seek out the animals linked to the story. Children make excellent progress in their learning.
