p.1

The inspector observed learning activities in the childminder's home and garden. The inspector spoke with the childminder and assistant at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector observed the childminder and her assistant and discussed the outcomes of an activity together. The inspector looked at children's records, planning documentation and a range of other documentation, including policies and children's records. The inspector took into account the written views of parents.
p.2

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant attend child protection training and ensure supervision of children is a priority. The childminder carries out daily risk assessments to maintain a safe and secure environment for children. The childminder supports her assistant effectively and they work well as a team. For example, they use their knowledge from their qualifications and training to share and plan ideas together. The childminder reflects on her practice regularly and identifies areas to improve in her setting that children will benefit from the most. For example, she has identified using peer observations to further enhance the quality of teaching.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The quality of teaching is good. Regular observations and assessments are used effectively to identify and plan children's next steps in learning. Children learn to be caring and kind as they learn how to look after dolls. The childminder supports them in bathing, dressing and caring for dolls to help their social and emotional skills. Children show an interest in developing their early literacy skills. For example, they recognise letters in their name and learn to write and make marks using various materials. The childminder organises resources in a way that motivates and sparks children's interests. Children enjoy playing with puzzles, construction toys and looking at their favourite books. The childminder works well in partnership with parents, for example, she shares information about children's daily activities and how to support their progress at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder helps to boost children's self-esteem effectively, for example, through praise and encouragement. She helps them to celebrate the differences between themselves and others. For example, they look at some decorated wooden Easter eggs from Romania. This is one of the ways they learn about similarities and differences between other cultures when celebrating Easter. Children learn to respect one another and show tolerance and consideration for their friends. Children enjoy eating hot cross buns as part of their Easter celebration, they are also provided with healthy snacks and nutritious meals. The childminder and her assistant talk to children about healthy foods that help their muscles to grow strong. The childminder encourages children to develop their large physical skills. For example, children use the slide and ride bikes in the garden.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and are well prepared for the next stage of their learning. They develop skills to support their early writing using a range of interesting resources, such as construction boards. Children develop good social skills and are confident and independent. For example, they confidently explore the different play spaces and make their own choices about what they want to do. The childminder supports children to develop good mathematical understanding. For example, they count and place numbered foam pieces in order. She extends this challenge for some children as they learn about hexagons.
