development. She effectively shares information about children's progress and their next steps in learning and she helps parents to guide their learning at home.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 focus professional development more precisely on raising the quality of teaching to an even higher level  help children to develop their understanding of how good practice with regard to hygiene contributes towards their good health.

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has robust procedures in place to keep children safe from any unchecked visitors to the home. She knows what might cause her concern about a child and who to report it to. The childminder has undertaken safeguarding and first-aid training to help to keep children safe. She undertakes risk assessments and she makes adjustments to protect children from harm. The childminder monitors children's progress and she knows how to identify and address any gaps in learning and work alongside parents and external agencies. Parents are confident that their children are well supported to learn. They comment that the childminder has a strong impact on children's progress and they know exactly how their children are progressing. The childminder undertakes self-evaluation and she can identify her strengths and areas for improvement.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows individual children very well. She observes children carefully and provides experiences accurately matched to children's next steps in learning. The childminder encourages children to make choices and they are supported to develop their decision-making skills. She asks questions and gives children the time to respond. The childminder frequently introduces new vocabulary and repeats children's spoken words so that they can hear the correct articulation. This helps to support children's communication and language skills well. Very young children learn to recognise sounds, they imitate words and attempt new words. The childminder is skilled in encouraging young children to develop the fundamental skills needed for effective communication, such as taking turns to communicate.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a warm, welcoming environment for children of all ages. She nurtures children well, so that they settle in with ease. The childminder supports children's growing understanding of how to behave and she praises their good efforts. She models good manners for young children to hear. The childminder helps children to learn about healthy foods and exercise through a variety of experiences indoors and outside. Children show good levels of independence for their ages, particularly at mealtimes. They are motivated to feed themselves and they practise their physical skills from an early age. Children show confidence in moving around the play environment and accessing resources, returning to the childminder for reassurance when needed.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are enthusiastic, motivated and enjoy learning. They make good progress in all areas of learning. Children are independent in their play and actively contribute to their learning. This helps them to make good progress and prepares them well with the key skills needed for their next stage in development, including school.
