Safeguarding is effective. The childminder implements policies and procedures effectively to help protect children from harm. The childminder accesses professional development that helps her to develop her skills. She uses her knowledge to improve outcomes for children. The childminder is committed to continually improving. For example, she has completed a level 3 qualification since her previous inspection. The childminder carefully observes, assesses and tracks children's progress. She ensures that any gaps in children's learning are identified, so that any additional support can be provided. Parents' comments in questionnaires are positive. They say their children are happy, safe and well cared for.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children enjoy a wide variety of challenging activities that promote their individual learning. Observations and assessments of children's learning are effective and show the development they make. The childminder follows the children's lead and supports their interests. Children respond enthusiastically and show a willingness to try things for themselves. She encourages children to develop early writing skills, for example, as they make marks in a variety of different media. Children particularly enjoy listening to stories as the childminder brings them to life using props such as boomerangs, Chinese lanterns and animals. The childminder plays alongside children and uses appropriate questions and explanations to help their understanding. This supports children's language development well. They sing happily to themselves as they play and giggle excitedly when the childminder joins in.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are well behaved. The childminder helps them to understand the importance of being polite and using good manners. Children enjoy helping with simple tasks, such as setting up and clearing away snacks. They respond well to the childminder's praise and show pride in their achievements. Children develop physical skills as they throw and catch balloons and they use equipment at local parks. The childminder supports children to develop good personal hygiene routines and understand the importance of a healthy balanced diet.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

The childminder prepares children well for their next stage in learning, including moving onto school. She encourages them to be independent and make choices, which helps build their confidence and self-esteem. Children concentrate well as they sound out words and letters. They use fine motor skills to manipulate playdough with tools. Children confidently count items as they play, for example, when exploring Russian dolls.
