This provision is good
Since registration, the childminder has significantly increased her knowledge about how best to support children to learn. She has attended training courses and workshops, which have had a positive impact on her confidence and practice. Children are well safeguarded. The childminder closely monitors children who sleep, making regular checks on them. She keeps children well supervised during activities and carries out effective risk assessments of her home and garden. Children benefit from the childminder's effective partnership working with their parents. Information is shared from home and any changes to children's routines are discussed, which results in each child's individual needs being met. The childminder is effective in her teaching. She spends time gently interacting with the children, which encourages them to explore and try new experiences. The childminder gradually builds on what children know, promoting their independence

and enabling them to make choices about what they do and play with together. Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning and their eventual move on to school.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Young children have few opportunities to imitate words and sounds during activities. The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to promote children's interest in their families and familiar people.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed an evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder and the children at convenient times during the inspection. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation, children's records and evidence of the suitability of the adults living in the household. The inspector took account of the views of parents from information provided in the childminder's questionnaires.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has an organised approach to her work and reflects on her provision, taking account of the views of parents and children. She demonstrates a commitment to continuing to develop her knowledge and understanding. The increased knowledge gained from training has a positive impact on her daily activity with children, helping her in supporting their learning and managing their individual needs. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of how to keep children safe and protect their welfare. She has completed training in safeguarding and the adults living in the household have the required suitability clearances in place. The childminder has developed partnerships with other providers who are involved with the children and ensures that information is shared. This results in children receiving a consistent approach to their care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good knowledge of how each child prefers to learn and offers a wide range of activities, both inside and outside. She plans activities that provide children with challenges that help to further their progress, and gently introduces new experiences for the youngest children. However, she does not make the most of opportunities as they arise to encourage children's interest in familiar people and their families. Regular observations and assessments of children's progress are used by the childminder to plan experiences linked to their next steps, interests and suggestions. Children enjoy the childminder's positive interaction with them. However, occasionally she does not pronounce words clearly and loudly enough to fully enable babies to imitate the sounds and build on their speaking skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are able to choose from a wide range of interesting toys and activities that the childminder sets out for them. Toddlers move around, confidently exploring on their own or sitting with the childminder to play. The childminder is successful in managing children's individual care routines. She works closely with parents, following babies' home routines for sleeping and feeding as closely as possible. The childminder has detailed discussions with parents about stages of weaning before providing food for the children. Children are protected from the risk of cross-infection, as the childminder has effective procedures for maintaining good hygiene. The childminder uses suitable strategies for managing children's behaviour. She has a consistent approach, successfully distracting toddlers with alternative toys.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children clearly show that they have a good relationship with the childminder and feel safe in her home. Babies snuggle into her for comfort as they need it and they are confident to move around, choosing their own activities. Children are supported by the childminder to make good progress in relation to their unique starting points.
