p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder does not carry out the required progress check for children aged between two and three years. The childminder does not consistently assess all children's progress, in order to plan effectively to address any identified gaps in their learning. The childminder does not reflect on her practice sufficiently well to ensure she plans ongoing improvements, particularly for her own professional development. She does not take into account the views and opinions of parents and children to inform her reflections.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder provides children with good opportunities to develop their language skills. She listens carefully to children and asks them questions to encourage them to communicate. The childminder is kind and caring. Her interactions with children are encouraging and supportive and she offers frequent praise. Children's self-esteem and confidence are promoted. Positive strategies are used to help children learn to manage their own behaviour. The childminder is a good role model. Children behave well. Children are becoming independent, relative to their age. They attempt to put on their own coats and shoes, wash their hands and feed themselves.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage the provider must:

implement effective procedures for conducting the progress checks for children between the ages of two and three years and provide parents with a written summary of their child's development when appropriate 18/04/2016
p.2

improve processes for completing more frequent and consistently accurate observations and assessments, in order to inform planning of next steps to support children's good progress in learning. 18/04/2016
p.2
Due Date
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
Due Date
improve the process of self-reflection, using the views of parents and children to help identify and plan for improvements, including professional development.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises. The inspector spoke to a small selection of parents during the inspection and took account of their views. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows what to do should she have any concerns about a child in her care. The childminder talks to parents about their child's day and the activities they have been involved in. This helps parents to be aware of some aspects of their child's learning and developmental progress. However, she has not completed the progress check for children between the ages of two and three years. This does not fully support children to make the best progress in their learning. The childminder's reflections on her practice are not robust enough to identify any weaknesses, including her professional development needs. She does not use feedback from parents and children to help inform her reviews. Nevertheless, she has good relationships with parents, who state their children are happy in her care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder provides a suitable range of activities to promote children's learning, including regular outings to playgroups and parks. She plays on the floor with children and demonstrates how to complete simple tasks. This helps support children to try out new activities. Children are engaged in play activities and motivated to learn. The childminder is kind and warm in her interactions with children. She provides a commentary during play activities. One example of this is when the childminder uses new vocabulary to describe objects while children enjoy investigating a collection of shiny and sparkly materials. The childminder repeats words clearly, in order to help encourage and support children's language development. She develops her knowledge of individual children through observing them in their play and gathers information from parents from the start. This helps her to identify children's interests and some achievements. However, she does not

assess children's learning regularly and carefully enough to identify precisely what they can learn next or to review their progress.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The childminder does not complete the necessary progress checks to ensure that children's personal development is always fully supported. Children enjoy a range of activities to develop their physical skills. The childminder ensures that children benefit from healthy meals while in her care. They form secure emotional relationships with the childminder and readily go to her for reassurance. The childminder supports children to find out about the world we live in and the differences in the wider community. Children learn about the different festivals that others celebrate. They mix with other children when they attend community groups, which helps them to develop their socialising skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Children make some progress in their learning and development. However, this is not assessed securely enough to ensure any gaps in their learning are quickly recognised and closed. Children are settled and happy, forming secure emotional bonds with the childminder and each other. They develop their independence skills in preparation for the next stage in their learning, including nursery and school.
