This provision is good

 The childminder provides a safe, well-organised and welcoming environment for children. They make independent choices from the wide variety of resources indoors and outdoors.  Children have warm, caring relationships with the childminder. She knows the children well and is sensitive to their individual needs and routines.  Children enjoy taking part in a wide range of stimulating activities and experiences that interest them and motivate them to learn. They make good progress in their development and are ready for the next stage in their learning.  Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder works closely with parents to keep them fully aware of their children's care and learning. For example, she shares details of activities and achievements, and encourages parents to share information about their children's progress at home.  The childminder shares ideas and information with other childminders to develop the

range of activities and experiences for children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has not fully developed procedures to monitor all aspects of her practice meticulously.  The childminder does not always make the most of opportunities to extend her professional development further.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 build on the existing systems for self-evaluation and reflective practice further, in order to strengthen the already good teaching skills and raise outcomes for children  strengthen the good-quality practices even further through building on opportunities to extend knowledge and skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children taking part in activities with the childminder indoors and outdoors.  The inspector talked to the childminder about her practice and children's learning and development.  The inspector sampled paperwork, including children's records and the childminder's suitability checks.  The inspector spoke to available parents and read their comments and questionnaires to take account of their views.  The inspector looked around the areas of the childminder's home used by children.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has completed a child protection course and knows what to do if she has concerns about a child's welfare. She keeps all of the required documentation, which is organised, comprehensive and up to date. The childminder observes children's achievements carefully to ensure she is fully aware of their progress and quickly provides more support if required. This helps all children to make good progress. Parents comment that they are very happy with the care the childminder provides. They value her caring, flexible approach and the good systems for communication. They are confident their children are safe, well-cared for and progressing well.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows children well. For example, she gathers detailed information before they start and makes sure she has regular updates from parents. She is responsive to children's interests and encourages them to develop their ideas as they play. For example, she makes sure children can easily get out paper and pens when they want to draw during their game. The childminder supports children's communication and language skills well. For example, she talks to them, asks questions and encourages conversations. She encourages children to try things for themselves and gives them time to practise new skills. Children learn about the world around them. For example, they help grow vegetables in the garden and enjoy harvesting vegetables, such as leeks.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children behave well. The childminder is a good role model and helps children to learn to treat others with respect. She offers gentle guidance and praise, and helps children gain the skills they need to keep themselves safe. For example, she encourages children to think about whether it is safe to climb on a chair. The childminder supervises children closely and checks her home thoroughly for any hazards. She promotes children's good health effectively. For example, children learn why they need to wash their hands before they eat. Children play outside every day to promote their good health and enjoy practising their physical skills.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress based on their starting points. They quickly grow in confidence and become more independent. For example, they choose their own resources and help tidy toys away. They are confident communicators and are keen to express their ideas. Children count in their play and learn to recognise letters. They are prepared effectively for their future learning and school.
