This provision is good
Children settle very well into the childminder's nurturing and caring environment. Young children are independent and manage their personal hygiene confidently. The childminder successfully promotes children's behaviour. Children develop empathy and compassion for one another, and have a very good understanding of how to behave, take turns, share and negotiate as they play. The childminder teaches the children a good range of skills to prepare them well for the next stages in their learning. They have a very positive attitude to learning. Children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder keeps up to date by attending regular training and makes improvements to her provision in response to her new knowledge that benefits children. The childminder provides parents with a good range of information about their children's care and keeps them informed about their children's progress.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always focus sharply enough on her good assessments to plan precisely for children's next steps in learning to help them achieve at a higher rate and make rapid progress. The childminder does not fully engage with all other settings children attend to ensure a consistent approach for each child's learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder engaging with children in a range of activities in the indoor and outside learning environments. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and engaged with children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at documentation, including a selection of policies and procedures, and children's records. The inspector took into account the views of parents by reading questionnaires, letters and cards. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability and the qualifications of the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has attended safeguarding training. She understands how to recognise issues and protect a child's welfare, including how to report potential concerns. The childminder carries out risk assessments to identify and minimise hazards to help keep children safe. The childminder keeps up to date with her professional development and reflects on her practice. For example, she has attended training to strengthen children's understanding of the world and improved her outdoor learning space for children who prefer to learn outdoors to have more opportunities. The childminder makes good assessments of children's development and monitors their progress to identify any gaps in their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder's good interaction helps to develop children's speaking and listening skills. She engages children well; for example, they enjoy listening to stories and show an early interest in books. The childminder talks and asks questions about the illustrations to challenge their thinking and to extend their ideas. She takes children on a wide range of walks and visits to the local community to broaden their learning experiences. For example, they travelled on the London Underground to learn about different modes of transport. The childminder helps teach children about other people's traditions and celebrations. For example, on the day of the inspection, St Patrick's Day, the children learnt about this Irish religious and cultural celebration.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder works supportively with families to find out about each child's individual needs and routines. She makes children feel very welcome and valued. For example, the childminder frequently praises their efforts, and shows deep concern and interest in them. The childminder encourages children to manage small tasks for themselves, such as getting dressed to play in the garden. The childminder is a very good role model. She quickly and consistently manages any minor disagreements children have, helping them to resolve them. She explains the consequences of children's choices to help them understand the boundaries and to manage risks so they learn to keep themselves safe.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and have good levels of independence. They show an interest in exploring technology. For example, children operate simple battery-operated toys, such as turning buttons to make a robot dance. Children practise their coordination; for example, they enjoy transporting pasta into different containers using spoons and funnels. Children learn mathematical skills, such as counting, and talk about sizes and shapes. Children gain a good range of skills in readiness for school.
