Inspection activities
The inspector observed children during their play, indoors and outside and she observed how they interact with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder about how she plans for children's learning and how she deploys strategies to engage parents to extend this at home. The inspector sampled the childminder's documentation and children's records. The inspector spoke with the childminder about how she evaluates her provision of care in order to maintain her outstanding practice. The inspector discussed how the childminder uses new skills gained through training and research.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The childminder is highly reflective of her practice. She regularly reviews her provision of care and the effectiveness of each child's individual learning. The childminder enjoys positive partnerships with parents. She has excellent strategies to encourage them to share children's achievements from home, for example through 'wow' moments, which she displays. This active childminder is keen to develop her skills. She regularly attends training, and for example has taken opportunities to learn more about 'schemas'. She states the course was interesting and that she would like to extend this learning to enhance her understanding of childhood development. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a very good knowledge of child protection matters.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
This enthusiastic childminder teaches children extremely well. She uses warm interactions to motivate them and encourages their participation. The childminder uses focused observations to assess children's achievements and plan successfully for their next steps. She regularly reviews their progress and shares this with parents. Her highly effective skills make a positive impact on how all children make rapid progress in relation to their starting points. Children are extremely well prepared for the next stages of their learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder promotes equality and diversity well. She helps children to respect one another, make decisions, take informed risks, and be independent and confident in their abilities. For example, children fully understand to use the trampoline one at a time and not to go under it as their friend jumps above. She encourages children to develop healthy lifestyles and offers various outdoor learning experiences. These include walks around nature parks, for example, or having fun out in the garden. Children plant seeds and understand that they need water to grow. Children were quick to suggest they eat lunch in their garden as it was such a nice day.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children play contently alongside each other. They show interest in books, can anticipate what happens next and confidently offer suggestions as to why. Children are keen to work out solutions; for example, why they cannot blow feathers off their hands during a craft activity. They understand it is because of the glue. Sometimes they are less confident in working together to solve problems. For example, they struggled to move sand using a toy digger from one area to another. Nevertheless, this outstanding childminder is reassuring and supportive of their ideas. Children are developing their independence, language and literacy skills very well. For example, they are eager to learn the phonetic sound of their name and make secure attempts at writing it.
