Inspection activities
The inspector engaged in discussions with the childminder and children throughout the inspection at appropriate times. The inspector viewed areas of the childminder's home used for childminding. The inspector and childminder undertook a joint observation of an activity. The inspector took into account the written views of parents. The inspector looked at policies, children's personal profiles and a range of other documentation, including evidence of qualifications and suitability of household members. The inspector discussed self-evaluation and how the views of parents and children are included to drive improvement. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is fully aware of her safeguarding responsibilities. She knows how to deal with child protection concerns and maintains a safe environment. The childminder has attended a wide range of training courses, including completing an appropriate childcare qualification at level 3 since her last inspection. This training helps to further enhance the childminders knowledge, skills and understanding and contributes effectively towards improving the outcomes for children. The childminder knows to work closely in partnership with local schools, to support children with their future next steps in their learning. The childminder has developed effective partnerships with other childminders in the local area which enables her to effectively share and discuss best practice.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Detailed learning journey records are created for each child. The childminder completes observations and assessments of the children and plans the children's next steps in learning. The childminder participates well in children's play as she joins in at their level and allows children to take the lead. The childminder skilfully questions children to encourage them to critically think and use their imagination. Toddlers babble as they play, using a mixture of gestures and single words to make their wishes known. Children confidently use their imagination as they role play. The childminder joins in play or is nearby to support learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children demonstrate high levels of confidence and motivation as they freely move around the environment and make choices about what they want to do. Children's physical development is promoted well through daily activities in the garden to ensure they are active. While exploring the garden, the childminder supports children to become aware of their own safety so that they can learn to take risks safely. For example, the childminder supports young children as they climb the steps on the slide. The childminder takes children to regular groups outside of the home. This contributes towards children developing good social skills. Children gain a good knowledge and understanding of diversity through a range of activities, discussions and resources. Children form close bonds with the childminder because she gets to know them well and ensures their needs are met. She makes good use of settling-in visits to get to know children so that they feel

safe and confident in her care. Detailed information is obtained from parents when children first start and the childminder continually exchanges information to effectively meet each child's needs.
p.3
