This provision is good

 The childminder knows what children can do and she supports them well to make good progress towards their next stage of learning. Children are confident and happy, and have close relationships with the childminder. She is kind and caring, and teaches children to develop respect for others.  The childminder is reflective about her practice and includes the views of others to evaluate the quality of her provision. She has successfully worked on her previous recommendations and has a strong capacity for continuous improvement.  The childminder uses a variety of ways to teach children about people and communities. Children feel valued and gain an understanding of others' lifestyles.  The childminder interacts skilfully with children and promotes their communication skills and problem-solving abilities particularly well.  The childminder has a clear understanding of her responsibilities to safeguard children.

p.1

This provision is good

She ensures she follows all her policies and procedures accurately, to enhance the safe and effective running of her setting.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always successfully build links with all other settings that children attend, to ensure the best possible consistency in children's learning.  Although the childminder has a good range of resources, sometimes children do not have independent access to them to extend their choices further.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop effective partnerships with other settings that children attend, to provide the best possible consistency in children's learning  extend opportunities for children to make choices.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the children's learning and the childminder's teaching during a range of activities.  The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector looked at a sample of documentation, including the childminder's policies and the children's learning records.  The inspector checked evidence relating to the childminder's suitability to work with children, and reviewed parents' written feedback made available during the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder maintains a safe and well-organised environment where children thrive. The childminder has a positive attitude to continued professional development; for example, she keeps up to date with changes to regulations to support her practice. She uses self-evaluation well to monitor her service and has made improvements to her setting since the last inspection. The childminder builds successful links with parents and includes them in children's ongoing learning and assessment. She utilises information from parents about their children's early achievements at home and offers parents opportunities to contribute their ideas.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a confident knowledge of how to support children in their learning. She models language for them well and encourages children to become good communicators. Children enjoy activities based on their needs and interests. They develop good skills in thinking critically. For example, children discuss how to design bridges and tunnels for their cars out of blocks and the childminder encourages problem solving and positional language in their play, which children explore further. The childminder makes detailed observations of children's learning which she uses to inform her accurate assessments and plan challenging next steps. The childminder has a good variety of resources to support children's development.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children behave well at all times and the childminder supports them to understand the importance of working together. Children develop a secure attachment to the childminder and she responds sensitively to their needs. Children's physical and emotional well-being are supported consistently well. The childminder values children's cultural influences. For example, she encourages children to use their home language in the setting and includes food familiar to them in her weekly menu. Children learn about healthy lifestyles and keeping safe. They learn about their local environment. For example, they go on regular outings to places such as the zoo and a local farm.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning as they advance steadily towards the early learning goals. They are confident, polite and show care for others. They are motivated, enthusiastic and curious to try out their ideas and develop valuable skills they need for future learning.
