She knows the procedures to follow if she has a concern.  The childminder has strong partnerships with parents. She communicates well with parents, which helps her to meet the individual care and learning needs of the children. She has good routines for risk assessments to ensure that the environment is safe for children.

p.1

 The inspector observed interactions between the children and the childminder.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder at convenient times during the inspection.  The inspector obtained written and verbal feedback from parents to gather their views of the provision.  The inspector viewed all areas of the home used for childminding.  The inspector sampled documents that the childminder uses to support her practice.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage and her role and responsibilities. She works well with parents and gathers information from them to promote consistent routines. The childminder evaluates her practice well. She updates her knowledge regularly. For example, she seeks support from other professionals and attends training. This enables her to identify areas for development and improve children's experiences. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is clear about the procedures to follow to promote children's welfare and keep them safe.

She plans thoughtful activities and experiences that meet children's individual learning needs well. The childminder uses her experience and knowledge to adapt and change activities to keep children engaged in play. Overall, the childminder encourages children to be independent; this prepares them for the next stage in learning. The childminder has good language and communication skills and uses them to support children with emerging language, in particular those who are learning English as an additional language.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder responds well to children's interactions, which helps them to confidently play and learn. She is very calm and consistent, and children confidently approach her for support, comfort and reassurance. The childminder provides a variety of opportunities for children to socialise with others and to make friends. The childminder effectively promotes healthy habits, for example, by providing a range of healthy and balanced foods. The childminder follows good hygiene routines that help to support children's physical well-being. Children also benefit from trips out of the setting. For example, children visit the local environment and petting zoo on a regular basis. The childminder promotes positive behaviour and consistent boundaries, which helps children to build positive relationships and play well
