p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Some aspects of the childminder's programme of professional development are still not embedded fully yet, to enhance further the already good quality of practice. The childminder does not always involve parents in young children's settling-in process, in order to strengthen partnerships and help young children to settle at a faster pace.
p.1

Inspection activities
The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including the childminder's training certificates, insurance policy, records of attendance, risk assessments and the safeguarding policy. The inspector held discussions with the childminder about her daily teaching and care practices. The inspector jointly evaluated the effectiveness of an activity with the childminder, and observed the quality of teaching and care practices. The inspector looked at the areas of the home used for childminding purposes.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder fully understands her duty to protect children from the risk of harm. She is aware of the procedures for reporting any concerns to keep children safe. The childminder identifies and removes any hazards to young children. She uses risk assessments effectively to keep children in her care safe and closely supervises babies. She ensures children access toys, equipment and resources that are suitable for their age. The childminder maintains required training, such as paediatric first-aid, and generally evaluates her service to identify areas for development. She seeks parents' views as part of her self-evaluation process to drive continuous improvements. She monitors children's learning from their starting points to ensure they make consistently good progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of child development and knows the individual learning needs of the children in her care. She ensures young children have access to stimulating resources and experiences, such as to promote their sensory development. For example, she places a mirror in front of babies so they can see their own reflection, and provides a soft brush for them to feel and a musical bottle to hear sounds. The childminder uses her observations well to identify children's next steps in learning. She knows how to interact effectively with young children to extend their learning. For example, she smiles along with babies and encourages them to make sounds as they explore with the rattles and shakers. Additionally, she encourages babies to move their hands and supports them to sit up.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has a warm and caring approach with the children; for example, she comforts and rocks babies when they are unsettled. Young babies express their needs through emotions; for example, they smile to show excitement during play or cry when hungry. The childminder follows babies' individual feeding patterns and nappy changing routines, to meet their care needs effectively. She promotes good hygienic practices. For example, she washes her hands at appropriate times and maintains sleeping areas.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Young babies gradually learn to become familiar with their new environment. For example, they show curiosity in the different textures and bright-coloured resources. They show early signs of communication; for example, they look in different directions, smile and make sounds to show their excitement when engaging with adults. Furthermore, they practise their early movement and coordination skills well, such as when moving parts of their body independently.
