This provision is good
The quality of teaching is good. The childminder has a secure understanding of how young children learn. She provides some interesting activities which help children make good progress overall. Children develop strong and trusting bonds with the childminder. The childminder is kind and responsive to children's needs and they are self-assured and confident in her care. The childminder is a positive role model. She sets clear rules and boundaries which are consistently applied. The childminder uses praise and encouragement to help children feel good about themselves. Children are polite and their behaviour is good. The childminder demonstrates a good commitment to her ongoing professional development. She uses the internet to update her knowledge and develop her teaching skills. This helps her to improve outcomes for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although outdoor play is a regular occurrence, the childminder does not make good use of the outdoor environment to help children to build on all aspects of their learning if they prefer to play and learn outside. The childminder does not always gather enough detailed information from parents about what children already know and can do to help her when she assesses the initial starting points for children's learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as children's records and a range of policies and procedures. The inspector took into account the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has been on safeguarding training. She ensures that she is knowledgeable about current child protection issues and safeguarding legislation. The childminder helps ensure children are safe and secure in her care, through constant supervision of the children and vigilant assessment of the environment. She has attended training to extend her knowledge of how to protect children's welfare, with particular regard to health and safety. The childminder carries out assessments of children's progress and identifies children's learning needs accurately. She reflects on her practice and identifies any areas that can be improved. Parents are fully involved with their children's care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a range of interesting and exciting resources for children to choose from and to help them initiate their own play. She knows the children very well and uses her observations of their progress to help plan effective learning experiences. The childminder asks questions to encourage children to think of their own ideas and she provides a commentary to their actions to encourage their communication and language skills. Children are rewarded when they initiate communication as the childminder repeats their words and extends them into sentences. She models language very well and asks a good range of questions. Children's mathematical skills are developed as they explore how shapes fit into the sorter and match the colours to the correct holes. Children are able to investigate how things fit together and discover what happens if they shake, throw or fill containers.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children enjoy being active and settle well with the childminder. They have strong emotional attachments with her and show that they feel secure in her home environment. Children develop their independence and confidence through play. For example, they move around freely and choose the toys they would like. Children behave well and are polite. They learn how to get on with other children. Children learn to respect and understand each other's differences through their play. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles effectively. Children eat healthy foods and sleep comfortably according to their individual needs.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress. Children are enthusiastic learners and happily engage in the activities provided for them. They are very well prepared for school.
