questioning and clear pronunciation of words have helped all children, including those who speak English as an additional language, to use complex sentences within play.  Children are highly responsive to all staff and develop secure, warm attachments to their key person. A tailored process from the outset matched to children's levels of development and previous experience help them to settle quickly. Parents regularly share information with their child's key person and know precisely what to focus on at home to maintain children's excellent levels of progress.  Staff actively seek, value and respond to the views of parents and children. This helps to inform their meticulous planning and sustain continuous improvement. Parents comment on the valuable guidance they receive through parenting workshops to develop their own parenting skills and implement effective strategies at home.

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed joint observations with the provider and held discussions with the manager and all other members of staff.  The inspector held a meeting with the provider. She looked at relevant documentation, including a self-evaluation form, policies, staff's files and children's learning journals.  The inspector took account of the views of parents and carers through discussions on the day and by reviewing recently completed questionnaires.  The inspector saw evidence of the qualifications and suitability of all persons working on the premises and other documentation in relation to the safeguarding and welfare requirements.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. A rigorous recruitment process ensures the suitability of all adults working with the children. Staff regularly update their safeguarding knowledge and adhere to strict policies to help create a culture of vigilance. They have an excellent awareness of the indications that children may be at risk of harm and their duty of care to protect them. The management provide ongoing staff supervision to maintain the consistently high standard of teaching. The provision of and expectation for staff to take part in an extensive professional development programme helps to continually develop their expert practice. The management team monitors the organisation of the environment to fully embrace children's preferred leaning styles and interests. They review children's development to ensure that they all reach their full learning potential. The current focus is on continuing to develop the outdoor area.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

Staff gain an excellent understanding of each child's abilities through high-quality observation and assessment methods. They fully immerse themselves in children's play and skilfully follow their lead to provide high levels of challenge. For instance, a child choosing to complete a tree puzzle engages in animated conversation with staff and other children about a recent day out at the park. Staff extend the activity as they provide fresh flowers and introduce new words into discussion about growth. Children quickly adopt the use of daffodil and bloom as part of their developing vocabulary. Children eagerly work alongside staff to consider all their available options and make decisions about what they need to do to reach a solution. They develop high levels of critical thinking.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children persevere with activities, concentrate for long periods of time and take immense pride in their achievements as they reach their intended goal. They help to gather and include examples of their work in their learning journal. Exemplary working relationships between members of staff provide an exceptional example for children as they learn expected ways to behave. Children show respect for others, listen to their contributions and invite them to join in with their play. Children demonstrate an excellent understanding of risk and draw on their learning at the nursery to advise parents of effective safety measures to deploy in the home. They manage their personal needs with ease. For instance, children are fully aware of their own dietary restrictions and how this permits them to freely try some foods. This helps them to maintain their excellent health.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children thrive in this highly stimulating, meticulously planned environment. They make decisions about their day and show curiosity and imagination as they play. All groups of children make consistently high rates of progress from their starting point assessment. Identified gaps are swiftly addressed and closed rapidly. Children demonstrate high levels of independence, exceptional behaviour and a positive attitude to learning. Established links to the local schools enable staff to provide excellent support and prepare children extremely well for their future learning.
