This provision is good
Children's behaviour is very good. They contribute to and follow clear and consistent boundaries, with staff's effective support. Children are confident, happy and highly independent. Their personal, social and emotional development is particularly well promoted. Children of mixed ages play well together and support one another, as they learn to respect and value their peers. Staff deployment is effective. Children are supervised well at all times, and staff use every opportunity to engage children in good quality play experiences. Staff form close bonds with children and parents, acting on their views. Parents are extremely complimentary about the information that is shared with them and the level of support that staff provide for the children. Staff carry out regular risk assessments and ensure all areas are safe and secure for children to explore.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The exchange of information with the school staff does not always contain enough detail to consistently sustain a shared approach to supporting children's welfare.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

strengthen the partnership with the school staff, to exchange more details about what children know and can do, to support children's care and play experiences more effectively.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed how staff support children's play during indoor and outdoor activities. The inspector had a tour of the club's facilities with staff. The inspector spoke to members of staff, a selection of parents and children during the inspection and took account of their views. The inspector checked evidence of the provider's and staff's suitability, including their qualifications. The inspector sampled a range of documents, including policies and procedures that staff use to help safeguard children's welfare.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The qualified and experienced manager is committed to continuous professional development for herself and her staff to update knowledge and skills and to improve practice. The manager carries out evaluation with staff, parents and children to identify areas for improvement, build better experiences and benefit outcomes for children. Safeguarding is effective. Staff have a thorough understanding of their responsibility to keep children safe. Recruitment procedures are used effectively to check the suitability of all staff and there is a clear induction process. Staff supervisions and appraisals contribute to supporting the well-qualified staff to update their practice and provide for children's individual needs effectively.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Staff plan a variety of activities and experiences to support children to enjoy their time after school. Children enjoy taking part in creative activities and share their thoughts and ideas with staff. They chat confidently together about their designs, and children take pride in their work. For example, children talk about how they have included butterflies in their pictures, as they have been learning about caterpillars changing into butterflies at school. Staff support children to complete their homework. They promote children's language and communication skills well, such as through group discussions, reading and asking questions. Children learn about similarities and differences. For example, they learn about traditional saints' days and cultural celebrations. Children learn to problem solve and concentrate with sensitive intervention from staff. Staff use scrapbooks to display examples of children's artwork, which helps children to feel their efforts are valued.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children's emotional well-being is promoted well. Staff know the children well and form good relationships. Children settle quickly and have a clear understanding of routines. They independently choose from a wide range of resources and activities. Staff promote children's good health as they learn about what muscles they use during exercise. Children eat healthy nutritious food, and staff provide them with hot meals at teatime. Children of all ages play well together. They show good social skills as they share, take turns and negotiate what games to play. Staff offer lots of praise and use an effective reward system, which children excitedly talk about.
