This provision is good
The childminder keeps children actively engaged and builds their desire to explore and investigate new skills. For example, she provides purposeful activities that are appropriate for children's particular interests and developmental needs. Children are confident to explore the childminder's home and make their own choices about their play. This develops their independence and encourages them to follow their own ideas. Children make good progress in their learning. The childminder understands how to promote children's learning well. Children develop their confidence in speaking and listening. The childminder introduces vocabulary effectively and models language throughout children's play and activities. The childminder establishes effective partnerships with parents, working closely with them to meet children's individual care needs. Parents say that they are happy with the provision and comment favourably about the range of activities and the progress their
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Younger children do not routinely have opportunities to build on their curiosity and explore a wider range of everyday technology, to develop their understanding of the modern world further. The childminder does not sharply focus on monitoring the progress made by children to check fully that any emerging gaps in learning are closing quickly.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children at play throughout the inspection and the quality of teaching, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled documentation, including a selection of the childminder's policies and children's records. The inspector took account of the views of parents through their written comments, which were made available during the inspection. The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation processes and plans for improvement.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of her responsibilities to help keep children safe. She has assessed and minimised the risks to children within her care. She is knowledgeable about what to do should she have any concerns regarding a child's welfare. The childminder seeks additional training and courses that she feels are required. For example, she has attended training on child protection and government safeguarding initiatives; this has led to improvements in the systems for monitoring children's safety and well-being. The childminder reviews the quality of her provision and uses self-evaluation well to identify areas of further development. For example, she gains the views of the parents to help her plan for improvements and exchanges ideas with other childminders.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder generally observes children's learning and development, in order to plan their next steps in learning. She shares children's achievements at regular intervals with parents. Children enjoy learning. For example, they are thoroughly absorbed during painting and playdough activities where they develop their physical and early writing skills. For example, the childminder enables them to use their fingers for printing and making marks, as well as exploring more traditional tools in the playdough. They talk about the different textures and what they are making. The childminder provides good learning opportunities for mathematical development which capture children's interests and help them to make good progress.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and confident in their environment. They receive regular reassurance from the childminder while they engage in their play and independently explore their surroundings. The childminder promotes good manners and helps children to manage their own behaviour. She develops children's self-awareness and positive self-esteem particularly well. She teaches children to recognise their own unique qualities and to be respectful of others. She provides children with a wide variety of experiences that helps them understand about the world around them.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy their time at the childminder's home and progress well. They are confident and develop the necessary skills to help prepare them for their future learning and development. In particular, they have strong social skills and develop positive attitudes towards others. They gain a firm understanding of other people beyond their own immediate family, for example, from regular visits out into the local community.
