 Since the last inspection, the childminder has made significant improvements and implemented changes that have improved teaching and the procedures for safeguarding children.  The childminder provides a homely, clean and stimulating learning environment that contributes towards meeting children's individual needs. Furthermore, high-quality activities are provided by the childminder. This adds to the good progress that the children make in their learning and development.  The childminder is very experienced. She competently observes and assesses children's progress and provides activities and experiences that match their interests. She shares children's progress regularly with parents and works with them to plan for children's next steps.  The childminder evaluates her own and her assistants' practice well, taking into account the views of parents and children. Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and interactions between the childminder, her assistants and the children.  The inspector looked at the suitability and qualifications of the childminder and her assistants, as well as a selection of policies and procedures, including safeguarding. She discussed risk assessments and the childminder's self-evaluation process.  The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. She discussed children's learning and development, sampled their records and looked at planning documentation.  The inspector took into account the views of parents during the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistants fully understand what they need to do to protect children from harm. They have attended training in safeguarding and child protection to better their understanding. The childminder further enhances the safety and welfare of the children, for example, as she carries out regular risk assessments. This enables children to play in a safe learning environment. The childminder reviews the work of her assistants and has developed robust supervision and appraisal systems which have a strong focus on teaching and improving skills. A wealth of training has been undertaken since the last inspection and the childminder's assistants are much stronger in their teaching practice as a result.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides good quality teaching which successfully enables children to make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder makes good use of children's individual interests to help her plan a wide range of activities and provide resources that keep them motivated. The childminder effectively supports young children's developing language skills. She introduces new words and helps children to build sentences. Children develop early mathematics and literacy skills throughout their play. They thoroughly enjoy imaginative play as they pretend to be pirates hunting for buried treasure in the sand. Children become fully immersed in their learning, spending sustained periods of time engaged in their chosen activities.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder develops warm and caring relationships with the children. She helps them to gain confidence in social situations, in order to help prepare them for the move to school. Children enjoy the childminder's company and approach her with ease. Children are developing their understanding of how to share and take turns. The childminder builds children's confidence and self-esteem well. She offers praise throughout their play, which helps them to feel valued and recognise their own achievements. Children have the space to move around, develop their physical skills and have time to spend in the fresh air. They learn to keep safe as they play and explore and practise the emergency fire drill.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are making good progress and they are learning the skills needed in readiness for the next stage in their learning, including school. They enjoy a broad range of activities and are encouraged to be independent and make choices in their learning.
