p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of how to keep children safe and protect them from harm. She implements a range of policies and procedures, which she uses to underpin her good practice and share with parents. She ensures that children are safe inside the home and during outdoor play. For example, she regularly completes risk assessments to identify and remove any hazards. She effectively encourages children to manage their own risks. For example, when visiting the park, she teaches children about road safety and checks the environment before the children play. She has developed good links with other childminders and generally seeks their views when reflecting on her practice, to drive improvement.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder shows effective teaching skills. For example, she interacts positively with children and allows them to lead their own play. She responds well to their interests and children are constantly enthusiastic and engaged during play. For example, they squeal with delight when filling and emptying a toy box with cars. She observes children and effectively monitors their individual progress, in order to identify and address any gaps in their learning. The childminder regularly shares information with parents on their children's learning and development, and is aware of what she should do if she is concerned about a child's development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are emotionally secure and the childminder is very caring towards them. She knows how to meet their needs well and children form secure attachments with her. The childminder effectively promotes children's healthy lifestyles; for example, she provides nutritious meals and snacks, and takes them out for regular exercise. The childminder maintains a clean environment for young children to explore. For example, she ensures her home is always tidy, and she regularly cleans toys and equipment to prevent the spread of germs. She promotes children's social skills well and is a good role model. Children learn to be caring and respectful towards others.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Young children are gaining the necessary skills for the next stage in their learning. They display increased confidence in their physical development. For example, they develop their smaller muscle control well, such as when manipulating playdough and inserting puzzle pieces. They make effective progress in their early literacy skills. For example, they enjoy mark making on the easel and confidently turn the pages of a book when reading stories with the childminder.
