She is extremely inventive, developing new ideas to engage parents in their children's learning. For example, she formulated a 'Getting ready for school' pack for parents to use with children at home. Parents comment positively on the childminder's 'nurturing, caring and genuine love for children in her care'. Individual planning and assessment of children's progress is robust. Children receive rich and varied learning experiences based on their individual needs. The childminder constantly evaluates her practice and adds resources to successfully extend children's learning further. Safeguarding is effective. She is extremely vigilant in maintaining safety, while teaching children how to manage risks and challenge themselves.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder has an excellent understanding of how children learn, enabling her to make the most of all opportunities to progress their learning. Children are extremely happy, highly motivated in their play and persist with activities. For example, they listen to a favourite story and excitedly join in with familiar words. The childminder challenges children further to get them to think and find out more. For example, children decided to create pictures about the animals in the story, freely selecting their own art and craft resources. Children recognise the sounds of the first letters in their name as they write their names on their artwork. The childminder skilfully reinforces the different letter sounds to further develop children's early literacy skills. Very occasionally, the childminder selects toys for children rather than letting them choose for themselves.

For instance, they display their artwork in the 'art gallery' and enjoy admiring the creations done by others. Children behave exceptionally well and show high levels of self-control. The rich praise and ongoing encouragement from the childminder continually boosts their self-esteem.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are highly confident and show an excellent level of independence. For example, they beam with delight as they lead the singing activity and enthusiastically explained the actions for others to follow. Children make exceptional progress in their learning and acquire excellent foundations for their future and their move on to school.
