This provision is good
The childminder plans interesting activities and outings that support children's learning well and motivate them to join in. All children, including those who are learning English as an additional language, make good progress from their different starting points. Children eat healthy snacks and meals and develop good hygiene practices. They experience fresh air and exercise daily and develop a good awareness of living healthy lifestyles. Partnerships with parents and other providers are strong. The regular sharing of information between the settings and the home provides continuity for children. The childminder gives lots of praise and encouragement. Children develop good levels of self-esteem. The provider regularly reflects on her teaching practice. She considers the views of parents, children and other professionals to make improvements and maintain good outcomes for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Younger children do not have enough opportunities to hear numbers and counting as they play, which limits their awareness of early mathematics. The childminder does not plan the environment so that children can easily access all resources to extend their good learning and independence.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the areas used for childminding. The inspector observed children and the childminder during play. The inspector examined a sample of policies, documents and children's records. The inspector read feedback from parents to gain their views. The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation process.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has effective child protection procedures in place and keeps up to date with changes in legislation. She carries out regular risk assessments of her home to help keep children safe. The childminder has made improvements since her last inspection. For example, she has effective systems in place to observe and assess children. She knows them well and monitors their progress effectively. The childminder shares her findings with parents to help involve them in their children's learning. She attends regular training to improve her knowledge and skills. Parents speak highly of the childminder and the care and learning that their children receive.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder monitors the educational programme well. She uses the information gathered from assessments to target areas that children need to develop next. The childminder successfully develops children's understanding of the world around them through a variety of activities. For example, she takes children on outings to museums and local farms and helps children learn about how things grow. Children develop an interest in literacy and share books with the childminder. They use their imaginative skills well and enjoy exploring the different sounds that musical instruments make. Children develop good communication skills. For example, the childminder repeats words to help them develop their vocabulary and questions them carefully to develop their thinking skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children form positive relationships with the childminder, which promotes their emotional well-being effectively. They have regular opportunities to go on outings with the childminder and they learn to mix with others. Children learn about differences in society. For example, the childminder teaches children about different festivals and they discuss the different roles that people play as they complete puzzles. Children learn to respect one another and behaviour is good. Children learn about keeping themselves safe. For instance, they take part in regular evacuation drills and learn about road safety when on outings with the childminder.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop a good range of skills that prepare them well for future learning and school. Younger children develop confidence in their abilities and so are ready to learn. Older children develop good literacy skills. For instance, they learn to recognise and write their names. Children are interested and motivated to join in with activities. They communicate well and are confident learners. All children, including those who are learning English as an additional language, make good progress from their starting points.
