This provision is outstanding
The quality of teaching is exceptional. The childminder uses her excellent knowledge of how children learn to plan exciting and challenging experiences that significantly inspire them to learn and make excellent progress. In particular, there is a very strong focus on developing children's language and communication skills. The childminder has a highly successful partnership with parents. She goes to exceptional lengths to ensure they are fully involved in their children's learning and feel very able to contribute to this. Parents are proactive in sharing information on their children's learning at home, which the childminder embraces and uses in her plans. Children benefit significantly from an excellent variety of opportunities to play and explore outdoors. For example, they visit local woods where they learn how to spot birds and notice changes in the seasons. They walk along the canal banks and develop

an excellent understanding of how exercise can contribute to a healthy lifestyle. Children are extremely self-assured and secure in the care of this kind, caring and sensitive childminder. The warm, stimulating environment helps children to feel confident and very ready to explore and learn.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

build on the already excellent planned learning opportunities to link them even more closely to the next steps in children's learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector and childminder discussed the systems she uses to observe and record the children's progress, and the documents she uses to support her work. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability and qualifications of the childminder. The inspector looked at the rooms and resources used by the children. The inspector completed observations of the children engaged in activities with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a comprehensive knowledge of safeguarding; this includes an excellent understanding of her responsibility to reports any child protection concerns. The childminder monitors the children's progress exceptionally well. Accurate assessment is focussed on helping the children to make excellent progress in their learning. However, the childminder's excellent planning of exciting activities does not always link as closely as possible to children's next steps for learning. The childminder continually develops her provision to the highest level. She has an extremely positive attitude to professional development and attends training to enhance her already exemplary practice. This has a further positive impact on the children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder knows the children extremely well; she has high aspirations for each child in her care. She is fully committed to helping the children reach their full potential. The childminder makes all experiences a learning opportunity; for example, children choose the colour of soaps when they wash their hands. The childminder provides a rich and varied range of high quality, challenging experiences for the children that are linked to their current interests. For example, children develop an excellent understanding of life cycles; they talk confidently about frog spawn and tadpoles. She skilfully prepares children for the next steps in their learning and gives them confidence in their own abilities. For example, she uses new words with the children with clear explanations of how and why the words are used.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Children thrive in this highly stimulating, caring and nurturing environment. Children are fully involved in their own learning and have a strong base to develop their independence. They make very confident choices about their play and help the childminder to order further resources to enhance their activities. The childminder plans a wide range of practical experiences to help the children learn about themselves and others. They discover artwork from China and learn about different foods eaten for special occasions. The childminder is extremely effective at supporting children's growing understanding of how to keep themselves safe.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children make excellent progress from their starting points. They are very independent, and fully prepared for their next steps in learning. They know how to dress themselves and know the importance of preparing for outdoor activities. Children learn to socialise with others and develop a strong sense of themselves. They demonstrate superb social skills as they seek out others to share experiences and begin to cooperate during play.
