This provision is good
Children are happy and settled. They interact positively with each other and build good relationships with the childminder. Children have plenty of opportunities to develop their physical skills. For example, they play outside, dig in the mud and practise throwing balls. Children are motivated to learn and make good progress in relation to their starting points. The childminder monitors children's progress closely to identify next steps in learning and to provide further activities to interest and challenge them. She shares this information with parents to help them continue their children's learning at home. Children gain an understanding of the wider world. For example, they enjoy trips in the local community, and learn about and celebrate different festivals. The childminder places a high priority on children's safety. For example, she gives gentle reminders to children about using chairs and scissors safely, and completes

regular risk assessments for the setting and for outings.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always provide enough opportunities for children to extend their creativity further. The childminder does not always implement information gained from training courses into her practice effectively to extend her skills and knowledge.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and children interacting together indoors and outdoors. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children during the inspection. The inspector looked at a sample of paperwork, including children's records and evidence of the childminder's suitability and qualifications.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is committed to providing good outcomes for children and families. She meets up with other childminders to share ideas and good practice. The childminder uses self-evaluation to reflect on and evaluate the service she provides. She includes the views of the parents and talks to the children about what changes they want. This enables children to have an influence on their environment and feel valued. For example, children help to choose new resources. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her responsibility to protect children and keeps up to date with new requirements. She knows who to contact should she have concerns about children's safety and welfare. Regular monitoring of children's achievements helps to identify any gaps in their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder promotes children's development effectively and knows when to join in to extend their learning further. For example, she uses new vocabulary such as 'spiral' and 'anticlockwise' as they join large cogs together. The childminder shows a keen interest in what children say and encourages them to respond. For example, she asks questions and repeats words to the younger children to support their communication and language skills. Children enjoy the range of activities provided and the childminder plans these to cater for the varying age groups. For example, younger children explore and feel a selection of balls while older children practise throwing them into a basket.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is warm and caring and supports children's emotional development effectively. She works closely with the parents to meet children's individual routines, such as recognising when children need to sleep. Children learn how to care for animals and enjoy stroking the family dog. The childminder teaches children to manage their own hygiene, for example, they have individual coloured towels and wash their hands before mealtimes. Children learn about healthy lifestyles. For example, the childminder talks to the children about nutritious foods and helps them to understand the importance of limiting sugar in their diets.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. They are confident and keen to talk to the childminder to share their thoughts and ideas. For example, children ask if they can grow flowers in the garden. Children learn to keep themselves safe and take care of their environment. For example, they know how to hold and use scissors and the importance of tidying toys away after use. Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning.
