This provision is good
The childminder develops good relationships with the children in her care. Children enjoy their time in her company and happily explore her well-organised home. Children make good progress and the childminder plans a range of activities that she knows will be of interest and engage the children. Children show that they feel safe and secure in the childminder's care. She supports children's well-being effectively and is sensitive to their needs. The childminder forms good partnerships with parents. She provides parents with daily information about their children, to keep them informed and included in their children's learning. The childminder evaluates her practice well and identifies areas for improvement which will benefit the children the most. The childminder supports and monitors her assistant well to ensure she is familiar with the policies and procedures, and to promote children's safety and well-being.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently track the progress of some groups of children, to help her gain a clearer overview of their progress and to promote their learning as much as possible. The childminder does not take all opportunities during some routine activities to encourage children to do things for themselves, to fully promote their independence.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

develop the monitoring and tracking of children's progress further, to identify and close any gaps in their learning more rapidly encourage further opportunities for children to develop their independence during everyday routines, in readiness for their future learning.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the children and the childminder playing together. The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector viewed a range of documents, including children's learning information, and the childminder's risk assessments and accident records. The inspector took into account the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder regularly reviews risk assessments, to monitor the safety of her home and any outings, and to help keep children safe. She attends training courses to help her to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of best practice and to develop new ideas to interest the children. For example, she used training to provide more opportunities for children to explore outdoors and learn about the world around them. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues. She ensures her assistant is familiar with her procedures and knows what to do if she has any concerns. She shares information with other early years settings that children attend, to improve continuity in children's learning. She seeks parents' and children's views to help identify how she can improve her provision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder organises and plans children's learning experiences well. Children can easily reach their preferred play resources, to make their own choices in play. The childminder understands how children learn and provides activities that she knows will interest them. For example, she reads stories to them and children like retelling favourite stories using props. She uses these activities to effectively encourage children to use mathematical language and also to develop their language skills. The childminder encourages children's physical skills well; for example, as they sing action songs and actively engage outside with water and mud, or begin to learn how to pedal a bike.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder gets to know children and their families very well. She liaises very closely with parents and keeps them well informed so she can meet children's individual needs precisely. Children play cooperatively as they develop their imaginative play. They speak confidently and begin to learn social skills, such as taking turns. The childminder teaches children to manage their own hygiene and personal needs well. She builds on children's enjoyment of outdoor learning, to effectively promote their physical skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children gain a good understanding of the world around them. For example, they learn about people with different trades; after showing interest in a roof thatcher, they attempted to make their own thatched roofs. Children gain confidence in sharing their feelings with each other and they hold good conversations with adults. These important skills help to prepare children as they move on to the next stages of their learning.
