Young people continue to make good progress in all areas of their lives. They develop and gain confidence from living in a very settled and safe environment. Staff proactively support them to achieve good outcomes. They help them move smoothly into the home and as a result they settle quickly. Staff provide a very nurturing environment where it is safe for young people to learn and grow from their mistakes. Their achievements are celebrated. Play and open discussions are used to help young people interact, manage their emotions and become confident in social situations.

Young people make good educational progress. They are actively involved in decisions that relate to their own education. For example, they identify appropriate school placements by visiting a range of options with staff. They follow a home based educational timetable while waiting to start their new school. They are then supported to gradually increase their educational timetable and achieve and maintain good fulltime attendance records. As they progress they successfully pass interviews and attend further education placements. Staff support them to develop their independence skills by helping them learn new transport routes to and from college placements. As a result they grow into confidence young adults and successfully move on from the home.

Young people’s safety is promoted at all times. Some young people have a history of going missing from care. Since moving into the home these incidents have significantly reduced. When incidents have occurred staff have worked proactively with the police. As a result in most cases young people have been quickly found. Since the last full Ofsted inspection there have been two prolonged missing from care incidents. In both cases the good work undertaken by the Registered Manager, staff and partner agencies resulted in the safe return of the young people. Staff continue to work with them to explore risks and how to reduce them in the future.

The home’s manager is now registered as a manager with Ofsted. As part of her professional development she has recently completed management investigation training and advanced safeguarding training. She has proactively supported the home’s staff team to transition one young person on into adulthood and move two new young people into the home. The staff team have successfully supported new and existing young people through this process. The Registered Manager continues to ensure the good quality of the service and that positive outcomes are achieved by young people. Information about this inspection

Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people living in the children's home. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the difference adults make to the lives of children and young people. They read case files, watched how professional staff work with children, young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care given to children and young people. Wherever possible, they talked to children, young people and their families. In addition the inspectors have tried to understand what the children's home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people who it is trying to help, protect and look after. This inspection focused on the effectiveness of the home and the progress and experiences of children and young people since the most recent full inspection.
