Inspection activities

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder has a very strong partnership with parents, which greatly benefits all. She shares a wealth of information with them about the children's development and achievements, helping to ensure there is continuity in teaching and care. The childminder has the highest expectations of the service she provides and constantly explores ways to improve. For example, after every training course she attends, she reflects on her practice and puts targeted plans in place to improve her practice. She also takes into account the view of parents and children, for example, though regular questionnaires and feedback. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder fully understands the procedure to follow should she have any concerns about a child's well-being.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder is a highly skilled communicator and listens perceptively to children. She actively engages them in high-quality interactions and very skilfully extends their learning and development. The childminder puts great thought and effort into providing experiences that capture children's imagination. For example, having observed how the children chose to learn, she created a discovery box full of everyday resources for them to explore and experiment with. The childminder accurately monitors children learning and plans precisely to help them make the best possible progress. She is working to refine her planning even further to build on children's interests as fully as possible.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder takes exceptional care of children's well-being. Children share a very close relationship with the childminder, who provides an exceptionally caring and nurturing home-from-home experience. Children learn how to keep themselves safe. They are confident to take risks according to their age and regularly discuss safety around the home and outside. For example, they follow the guidance provided by the childminder about how to ride the scooter safely. Children are confident learners and develop strong independence skills. For example, they use their extensive knowledge of different foods to make healthy choices. They also enjoy the opportunity to make their own sandwiches, skilfully spreading on the butter and adding fillings.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are very actively engaged and independent learners. They thoroughly enjoy the exciting activities on offer. For example, they take part in science experiments and enjoy mixing food ingredients together. They watch in awe as raisins jump when added to a mixture of vinegar and baking soda and have great fun as they catch them on a spoon. All children make excellent progress and are exceptionally well prepared for their move to school.
