This provision is good
Children have exceptional relationships with each other. Children of all ages are respectful and considerate. Both the childminder and older children act as really positive role models. Children really enjoy the time they spend with the childminder. They are very happy and comfortable. They are made to feel very welcome by the childminder and her own children. Parents and carers comment on how this helps children to settle when they are new. The childminder provides an appropriate range of activities in a safe and welcoming environment. The childminder evaluates children's participation in the activities to see how she can improve them. The childminder gathers the views of parents and carers to inform her practice. Parents and carers give very positive feedback about the childminder. They compliment the very good range of resources. They express how impressed they are that children engage in activities during the short amount of time before school.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always gather information about children's interests as quickly as possible. This means that activities are not always planned around children's interests from the very earliest opportunity. Partnership working with other settings does not yet ensure that the support for children is firmly established.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors and outdoors. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of training. The inspector took account of the views of children, parents and carers.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is very thorough in her risk assessments to ensure children's safety. This includes the premises, outings and the walk to and from school. The childminder carefully manages the security of the premises and the collection of children. The childminder has attended a good range of training which includes training in child protection. As a result, the childminder has a confident understanding of the types of abuse. She can clearly describe the action she will take in the event of any concerns. The childminder has also completed a level 2 childcare qualification. She makes good use of the knowledge gained to support children's development, particularly their personal and social development. The childminder is organised and regularly updates her policies and procedures. She is effective in evaluating her practice to identify how she can improve. The childminder gathers ideas and

suggestions from other childcare professionals to streamline her own practice.

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children are made to feel very welcome as they arrive at the end of the school day. The childminder initiates conversations to encourage them to discuss what they have been doing at school. Children are keen to join in with these discussions. They take turns in conversations and listen well to others. They also converse well with visitors and tell them what they enjoy doing. Children demonstrate their independence as they decide what they are going to play with. They have opportunities to develop their creativity through a range of craft activities. They are able to revisit this work until they are satisfied with the result. Children enjoy showing and telling others about what they have created. They take pride in their achievements. Children enthusiastically join in with physical games, such as football. They work collaboratively as they establish the teams and remind everyone of the rules. The childminder works in partnership with parents and carers. She gathers

information about children's needs when they first start. She provides a daily update of what children have been doing.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is highly effective in helping children to develop their relationships with others. She is a very good role model who values all children. The childminder adapts her strategies to help children to manage their own behaviour, depending on their individual needs. When children join in with group activities, they praise each other's efforts and show a genuine interest in what others are doing. Children play really well together and can manage their own games for very long periods of time. They have good negotiation skills and understand how to cooperate, to ensure that everyone is treated fairly. Children show independence in their personal care, for example, taking responsibility for their belongings. They learn about a healthy lifestyle, for example, through discussions about foods that should be eaten in smaller amounts. Children clearly understand the expectations for keeping themselves safe when they walk back from school.
