Inspection activities
The inspector observed children at play within the childminder's home. The inspector discussed with the childminder how she meets the requirements. The inspector examined a sample of relevant documentation and children's records. The inspector undertook observations on the childminder's teaching and jointly reviewed these with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The childminder is highly organised and dedicated to providing the highest level of care and learning for every child. She has an outstanding knowledge of how young children learn and how to promote their development. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent knowledge of how to protect children and follows her detailed safeguarding policies and procedures. p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder makes accurate assessments of children's skills. For example, she makes careful observations of children while they learn and play. She uses her assessments extremely well to plan challenging activities that are well suited to children's needs. The childminder seizes every opportunity to develop children's skills. For example, children are eager to learn more about planting and growing, following the opportunities they had to plant and nurture flowers for Mother's Day. The childminder introduces new words such as 'wilted' and 'roots'. She encourages the children to count the seeds into the ground and recognise how deep the hole is by measuring the depth. The childminder provides children with excellent opportunities to be imaginative. However, there are slightly fewer creative materials freely available to the children to follow their interests.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Children thoroughly enjoy their time with the childminder. She is highly successful in promoting children's personal development and well-being. Children become increasingly independent. For example, children enjoy preparing their own lunch, enabling them to assess risks and build upon their growing understanding of how to keep safe and healthy. The childminder manages children's behaviour exceptionally well. For example, she uses a very respectful communication system when the children want to talk to someone who is busy; they simply put a hand on the person's forearm. This shows excellent levels of self- control, particularly based on the age of the children.
p.3
