Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the setting both inside and outside. The inspector looked at a sample of children's records, planning and other documentation, including policies and procedures. The inspector spoke to the childminder, assistant and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of parents' views through written feedback provided on the day.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder and her assistant show a strong desire to improve. They have enhanced the outdoor area to strengthen children's physical skills. For example, there is more space for children to cycle and to practise ball skills. The childminder and her assistant demonstrate a commitment to their own professional development through the attendance at training and the implementation of new ideas. They have strengthened children's engagement in creative activities; for example, they use a good range of props to act out stories. The childminder has an effective system for monitoring the progress that children make. She quickly identifies children that require some additional help and works with parents to help them catch up quickly. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant implement robust procedures to protect children's welfare and have a secure knowledge of how to keep children safe.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder and her assistant have a good knowledge of the children's current stage of learning and their next steps. They make thorough assessments to identify each child's learning needs and styles. They plan exciting activities that cover all areas of learning and inspire children to learn. The childminder and her assistant are flexible in their planning, following children's requests and motivating them to learn. They teach children mathematical skills alongside their play and an interest in early reading. For example, the childminder encourages children to find the hook with their name on to hang up their coats. The childminder and her assistant prepare children well for the next stage in their learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder and her assistant help children to feel happy, confident and to settle quickly. They promote positive behaviours for the children, for example, they model expected actions. They teach children where toys belong, how to take care of their belongings and to tidy up alongside the childminder and her assistant. They encourage children's independence and to learn skills for the future, such as dressing for outdoor play and to serve themselves drinks. The childminder and her assistant help children to make healthy food choices to promote their good health.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children achieve the milestones typical for their age across all areas of development. They develop social skills, are independent and ready for the next stage in their learning. Children learn how to solve problems; for example, they work out if minibeasts are too big or small to fit in the bug box and how many legs each one has. Children develop their knowledge of early reading through a wide variety of interesting experiences; for example, they recognise letter names when they print letters in sand.
