This provision is good

 Children have extremely warm, close relationships with the childminder and assistant. They settle quickly and develop extraordinary confidence and independence.  The childminder provides exceptionally well-resourced and comfortable play areas. Children of all ages can safely choose what to play with from the extensive range of toys and materials.  Children learn through activities and experiences that they enjoy. The childminder provides very well-organised play space and easy access to a wide range of resources.  Children become independent learners from a young age. The childminder skilfully helps them to develop good thought-processes as they solve problems for themselves.  The childminder works closely with parents. She provides them with regular updates about their children's learning and development. Parents provide very positive feedback showing how happy they are with the care and education of their children.

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder continues to improve her knowledge and skills. She evaluates and assesses her work with the children to ensure she and her assistant maintain a good drive for improvement.

p.1

 Younger children do not have enough opportunities to develop their understanding of numbers, sizes and shapes.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 improve opportunities for younger children to explore numbers, shapes and sizes, to develop early mathematical skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector looked at the areas of the home used for childminding.  The inspector observed the childminder and assistant playing with the children during a range of activities.  The inspector reviewed the childminder's policies, looked at children's records and checked evidence of the suitability and qualifications of the childminder and assistant.  The inspector talked to the childminder and assistant throughout the inspection.  The inspector took account of the views of parents expressed in their written responses.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder ensures her assistant fully understands his role in keeping children safe. They continue to take training to update their knowledge of child protection to maintain the children's well-being. The childminder checks all play areas for hazards effectively, and minimises risks to ensure children play and learn in a safe environment. The childminder closely monitors and assesses children's progress. She is able to quickly identify any areas where the children may need extra support in their learning and development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder and her assistant have a good understanding of how children learn and develop. Children engage in an interesting range and good balance of activities and experiences that are appropriate for their ages and abilities. For example, young children thoroughly enjoyed making music using the instruments provided and simple technology toys. They were delighted dancing to the music and the childminder encouraged them to sing along with her. Children are very active learners who confidently explore and investigate by following their own ideas.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder is an excellent role model. She provides a calm, warm and welcoming environment. Children are exceptionally self-assured, helping them to extensively explore, investigate and discover with skill and confidence. For example, children enjoy pushing the buggies from room to room. They are excellently supported to work out how to move the buggy through the door, which they do with skill and independence. The high levels of expected behaviour are significantly appropriate to the children's stage of development. Children are provided with well-balanced meals and snacks, and have very robust hygiene routines to promote healthy lifestyles. They enjoy and learn about the benefits of fresh air and exercise though extensive daily outdoor play. Children have lots of opportunities to learn about diversity in the wider community through a wide range of activities, resources and books.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress. Their communication and language skills are developing well. Children explore the books with the childminder who helps to extend their language skills, as a result of which they are able to copy her, by naming the animals and making the sounds they make. They are active learners who, overall, obtain the skills needed for their next stages in learning and their eventual move to school.
