This provision is good

 The childminder works well with other early years settings that children attend to develop a consistent approach. For instance, they share information about children's interests, progress and next steps.  Children learn to play cooperatively and consider the needs of others. The childminder supports them to develop their confidence, build friendships and work together. Children behave well.  The knowledgeable childminder is well organised and professional. She plans, organises and provides a caring, stimulating, well-resourced play environment where the children make good progress.  Children take part in a wide range of interesting activities based on their interests. The childminder uses her observations and assessments to plan activities to support children to achieve their developmental goals. Children are ready for the next stage in their learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always fully build on her good partnerships with parents to encourage them to contribute regularly to their children's ongoing assessments.  The childminder does not always explore all opportunities to strengthen further her professional knowledge and skills, to raise the quality of teaching to the highest level.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen further the already good partnerships with parents to encourage them to contribute more regularly to ongoing assessments of children's achievements in learning  continue to explore ways to strengthen the already good knowledge and skills, to enhance the quality of teaching even further.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector took account of the views of parents from their written testimonials and discussions.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector looked at evidence of suitability of household members and a range of other documentation.  The inspector spoke to the childminder about how she reflects on her practice and includes the views of parents and children.  The inspector observed the children and the childminder during activities inside and outside.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder takes good care to promote all aspects of safeguarding. She has a good understanding of the actions to take if she has any concerns about children's safety or welfare. The childminder monitors children's progress carefully to identify and address any gaps in their learning. She regularly evaluates her practice. The childminder uses a system of 'two stars and a wish' to seek the views of the parents and children. They highlight two strengths and an area they wish to see improved further. The childminder has developed strong partnerships with other providers. Parents speak highly of the childminder. They value the safe, caring and stimulating environment she provides.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder encourages children's communication and language skills particularly well. For example, she models language effectively and extends young children's single words into short sentences. The childminder works with parents to encourage the language development of children who learn English as an additional language. She supports children to use their descriptive words and imaginations, for example, when talking about their dreams. The childminder has a good understanding of how children develop and uses her knowledge to encourage their eagerness to learn. Children have many opportunities to learn outside. For example, the childminder provides resources to support their understanding of nature, cause and effect, and to develop their physical skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children develop a good awareness of healthy lifestyles. For example, they go to the childminder's allotment and talk about the benefits of healthy eating, such as why the vitamins in carrots help their eyesight. The childminder gives children many opportunities to do things for themselves. They learn to dress independently, serve their own vegetables and feed themselves. Children learn about other cultures and the differences between themselves and others.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are confident and develop good communication skills. They ask questions knowing that the childminder will listen and respond to their enquiries. They are independent, motivated and eager to learn. Children behave well and are considerate of others, including younger children. Children all make good progress from their starting points and learn the skills they need for the next stage in their learning.
