This provision is good
The childminder creates a safe and welcoming home-from-home environment. Children settle-in well and are happy and confident, and have good relationships with the childminder and her assistant. Children's physical and emotional well-being are supported well. The childminder and her assistant are good role models to children and manage their behaviour effectively, according to their age and understanding. The childminder establishes strong partnerships with parents, which contributes effectively towards a two-way exchange of information, actively involving parents in their children's learning. The childminder is qualified and experienced. She has a good understanding of how children learn and develop. Children make good progress in all areas of their development. Children are physically active. For example, they enjoy regular walks in the community and have lots of opportunities to socialise with other people and learn about the world
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always use every opportunity to promote children's awareness of healthy eating and lifestyles. The childminder occasionally misses opportunities to extend children's learning experiences and independence further during activities and daily routines.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector toured the premises and looked at areas available for children to use. The inspector checked the evidence of suitability of the childminder, her assistant and all household members, and viewed a range of documents. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector interacted with the childminder, her assistant and the children throughout inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant have a secure understanding of what to do should there be a concern about the welfare or safety of a child. Children are cared for in a clean and safe environment. The childminder assesses potential risks to children and has effective procedures in place to minimise these at all times. The childminder is aware of the importance of working in partnership with others who also provide care and learning for the children. The childminder effectively works together with her assistant and seeks her views and those of the children and parents to identify areas to develop and improve. She supervises the work of her assistant well and together they update their knowledge and skills, for example, through training and research.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans effective educational programmes covering all areas of learning that meet children's needs and interests. This contributes towards the good progress that children are making from their starting points. The childminder gathers valuable information from parents about children's preferences, routines and abilities. She uses this to help children settle well and to identify their starting points. There is a consistent exchange of information between parents and the childminder about their children's progress and the activities that their children have participated in. This helps to ensure consistency in the children's ongoing learning and development. The childminder monitors children's progress effectively and uses this information to identify areas where children are doing well or where they might need more support.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children freely explore the toys and activities on offer to them and take the lead in following their interests. For example, children play imaginatively using dolls, caring and playing with them, drawing on their own experience. Children benefit from healthy snacks and learn simple good hygiene routines, such as washing their hands before they eat. They regularly play outdoors in the childminder's garden where they experience plenty of fresh air and physical exercise. The childminder and her assistant continually praise children for their efforts, which helps promote their self-esteem effectively.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop a variety of useful skills and attitudes needed for their move to school. For example, children engage in play and learn by initiating their own play using their experience. They demonstrate resilience and increasing skills to solve problems. Children listen carefully to instructions and are able to follow them.
