This provision is good
Children are happy and settled in the childminder's care. They form strong attachments to the childminder, who plans a good range of activities and learning experiences, which effectively help them to move on in their learning. The childminder meets their emotional needs well. The childminder manages children's behaviour well. She gives them lots of praise and encouragement for their efforts and achievements. Children are confident and develop positive self-esteem. The childminder reflects on her practice and evaluates her provision to identify areas for development. She regularly updates her knowledge and skills, for example, through liaison with other practitioners to make ongoing improvements and promote positive outcomes for children. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder shares information daily with them. They speak highly of the childminder, the care she provides and the progress
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always provide enough opportunities for children to access materials to fully develop their early writing skills. The childminder does not obtain enough information from parents about their children's starting points, in order to help her plan for individual needs from the outset.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

provide more opportunities for children to practise their early writing skills gather more information from parents about their children's starting points, to help with planning from the outset.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's learning records and the childminder's self-evaluation. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector took into account the views of parents from written comments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder provides a welcoming, safe and warm environment. She is clear about her responsibilities to keep children safe. She knows who to speak to if she has any concerns about a child's welfare and is proactive in keeping her knowledge up to date. The childminder makes regular observations of the children engaged in activities and play. She uses these successfully to plan for their next steps in learning and monitors their progress effectively. The childminder works well to support children and their families. She works in effective partnership with other agencies to support children's communication and language. Her constant interaction, alongside the introduction of new words, helps children to catch up with their peers in their learning and development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the children's individual learning needs. She extends children's language development well. For example, she comments on their play and repeats words clearly, so that they hear how they sound. The childminder counts in routines and activities. For example, she counts the children's hands, as they wipe them after snack time. During the inspection, children thoroughly enjoyed listening to stories and discussing pictures in books. They confidently tell the childminder about their favourite dog in the picture, and begin to use words such as 'fluffy' to describe what it looks like. Children begin to count and sequence numbers as they complete puzzles. They recognise shapes and learn how things work. For example, they press buttons, twist and slide levers as they investigate how to open different locks.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder teaches the children about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. She provides many opportunities for children to develop their physical skills and benefit from fresh air and exercise. They follow thorough hygiene routines and become increasingly aware of their own personal needs. For example, they are beginning to recognise when they need to sleep or need changing. Children develop good social skills as they meet with their friends at children's groups and enjoy visiting a cafe with the childminder where they also learn how to sit nicely at the table.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development. They play well together and enjoy making their own choices in play. They listen well to instructions and develop good independence skills as they learn to do things for themselves. This helps them to gain the skills needed for the next stage in their development and for when they start school.
