This monitoring visit

On the 3 February 2016 an inspection was undertaken by a social care regulatory inspector to conduct an investigation into concerns raised regarding the high level of police involvement with the home. The shortfalls identified during this visit included; placement matching, effective risk assessment, bullying and damage to the environment. This resulted in a compliance notice being issued and two statutory requirements. On the 4 March 2016 a monitoring visit was undertaken. This was to evaluate the progress made in meeting the compliance notice regarding protecting children from incidents in the home. The visit found that the staff team have all read the policy on bullying and logs of these incidents are more detailed. Records describe each incident and risk management plans are updated with further incidents. The manager has monitored the incidents of bullying and reminded staff about deployment and supervision of young people. There continue to be a number of

altercations between young people. These involve equal provocation and retaliation, however, these are of a lesser nature than before. Young people say that while the dynamics are difficult they do not feel intimidated or unsafe in the home. Incidents resulted in damage to the home. Areas of the home have been redecorated, and areas of the home are in the process of decorated. There is a maintenance programme in place to continue to complete repairs. The requirement made at the last inspection remains active. The home have given notice on one placement and have made interim arrangements to alleviate the tensions in the home. Staffing levels have been increased and staff have extra resources to provide additional activities for young people. This keeps young people busy and stimulated lessening potential incidents in the home. The compliance notice is met. Ofsted will continue to monitor the home.
