p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder is enthusiastic and has a good understanding of her role. She is committed to improving the quality of care and learning experiences for children. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder fully understands her duty to safeguard children and is aware of reporting any concerns to the appropriate professionals. In addition, thorough risk assessments ensure that the property is safe for children's use. The childminder uses her knowledge of child development to monitor children's learning so they continue to make good progress. She works well to reflect the diverse local community and actively promotes equality. Children gain a good understanding of others and how people differ, such as through a range of activities, discussions and well-chosen resources.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has well-established relationships with staff at local schools that children also attend. Regular information sharing helps the childminder to know what the children are doing at school and how she can support them further; for example, the childminder supports children's learning of letter sounds in line with the school planning. She keeps parents up to date about their children's daily welfare and ongoing progress. Parents are fully involved and able to contribute to their children's learning and development, for example, in regard to their literacy development. Parents speak highly of the care that their children receive. The childminder promotes children's early mathematical learning, for example, about the concepts of size, number and length. The childminder plans interesting outdoor experiences. For example, children delight in visiting local parks, canals and libraries, which helps to expand children's learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder offers a calm and stimulating environment where children are confident and motivated to learn. The children have opportunities to be physically active, and they have healthy snacks and meals as part of learning about healthy lifestyles effectively. Children have opportunities to take carefully managed risks and to understand how to keep themselves safe; for example, they use a cheese grater with the childminder's support when making a pizza. Children are aware of the childminder's expectations for good behaviour. They respond positively and develop a strong sense of responsibility and self-esteem. For example, children regularly plan their own weekly activities.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are enthusiastic learners. They are prepared well to move on to the next stage in their learning. For example, they form good relationships with others, learn to listen carefully, can count and enjoy practising their early writing skills.
