This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder's procedures for checking the suitability of assistants are not robust enough. The childminder has not fully developed ways to help all children extend their awareness of the different languages and backgrounds represented in the setting. The childminder does not consistently involve all parents in the learning and assessment process. For example, she does not encourage them to contribute their observations of what children achieve at home.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder has good teaching skills. She interacts skilfully with children and helps them make good progress. Children form strong emotional bonds with the childminder. They are confident, happy and settled. Children develop a sound awareness of healthy lifestyles and good personal hygiene routines. They enjoy daily exercise and develop sound physical skills. Children enjoy a wide range of stimulating and challenging activities that interest and engage them.

reflect children's home languages and backgrounds more in the setting, to help strengthen their increasing awareness of diversity strengthen opportunities for parents to share what they know about children's achievements at home.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's activities indoors and in the garden. The inspector sampled children's learning records and other relevant documentation. The inspector discussed childcare practice with the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents from written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder has failed to meet a requirement of the Early Years Register and Childcare Register. The childminder's systems for ensuring the suitability of assistants are not thorough enough. She has initiated the relevant checks but has allowed an assistant to have unsupervised access to children for short periods before the checks have been completed. However, in this instance the impact on children's safety is not significant as the childminder has checked the assistant's existing checks from another setting. The childminder has a sound understanding of safeguarding procedures. She understands her role with regard to reporting child protection concerns. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder makes sure that the assistant understands her role and completes relevant training. The childminder evaluates and develops her practice, for example, by gaining advice from support workers and doing research.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes and assesses children's progress effectively. She successfully tailors her planning of activities around children's individual needs. The childminder builds successfully on children's existing skills. For example, she makes good use of a wide variety of toys and materials to extend children's learning. Children develop good control and coordination, for example, when they thread cereal hoops onto spaghetti. The childminder actively promotes children's communication skills, for example, by encouraging them to copy words and name objects.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
There is a breach of requirement regarding suitability checks on adults, although this does not have a significant impact on children's safety. Children show that they feel safe and secure in the childminder's care. They respond positively to her praise and gentle reinforcement of good behaviour. The childminder teaches young children to share. Children learn to take and manage risks, for example, when they try more challenging outdoor play equipment.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The childminder prepares children well for school. Children are becoming increasingly independent. They learn to see to their own needs and make choices. Children develop good social skills and play happily with others. They take on responsibilities, such as tidying up and getting a chair at snack time. Children become confident communicators. They enjoy investigating and work things out for themselves. Children are keen to join in activities and have fun as they learn.
